As the title says, is it possible to secure a pdf file using OpenOffice (or some other preferably free program) so that people can't edit it and/or save it as text/word file?

I personally use Adobe Acrobat Reader Pro to secure PDF's, not too sure about OpenOffice but i don't think it will be secure, but at the end of the day if someone wants to rip content from a PDF there is plenty of software out there to do it unfortunately |

Yes. Open office has an option when you "export" to pdf that allows your to set things like the copy and paste options, and passwords. Go to File, Export to PDF, Enter name of file, then you should see several tabs, including "Security". |

Yep! You can do it with OpenOffice. It's fairly easy once you get the hang of it. You can also create a table of contents too! |

What exactly would I have to do in OpenOffice to make it so people can't do a 'save as text" for example? In the "export as pdf" there is a "security" tab, clicking on it gives 2 things: "encrypt pdf document" and "restrict permission" "Encrypt pdf document" will make it so that a user is asked for a password when they try to open a pdf file 9nice for securing ebooks from being downloaded without paying I suppose) but you can still save it as text once opened. Restrict permission I am not even sure what it does. There are also some other options such as "enable copying of content" and "enable text access for accessibility tools" which sounds like something along the lines I want, but those options are unlickable. So, what exactly would I have to do in OpenOffice to prevent people from doing a simple "save as text" I realize that if someone really wants to do it, they will find a way, but making it a bit harder will likely reduce the number of people who'll do so. PS: While I am on the subject of OpenOffice and pdf's in general, how would you add a "Copyritghed by Name" at the bottom of each page in a pdf document? |
