Which Marketing Master would you work with?

I’m interested in who you would choose to work with for
a project OUTSIDE the ‘Making Money’ niche. For example,
acne, weight loss, singles site, or any other.

I’m talking about some big boys of marketing. Guys like Dan
Kennedy, Michael Masterson, Yanik Silver, Jeff Walker, John
Reese, Allen Says, Eban Pagan, Jonathan Mizel, Rich Schefren,
Jimmy Brown, Marlon Sanders, Frank Kern, Jim Edwards, etc.

(Don't limit yourself to that list)

If you could work with any of them on a project that DID NOT
target 'opportunity seekers & money making', and at no cost,
who would you choose?

I’d love to hear who, and why. Thanks.

      Great question!

Within the IM niche probably John Reese, but since the question is oriented towards outside that niche, probably Eben Pagan, he's proven to be a genius in several niches.

John Reese is a genius in several niches too!

In fact, that's what a true marketing genius should be like.

After all, what good is a marketer? If he can only manage to sell
products that teach people how to make money when he can't
make any money himself? It doesn't make sense this way.

    • Eban Pagen is cool and knows his stuff outside of IM. Frank Kern obviously as well. I mean they all know their stuff.

I think something else to consider would be personalities, who seems to grab you the most and who you think you would be able to learn the most from and click with.

I also like Michael Cheney's style, he is very easy to get along with and talk to although he is mainly in the IM niche.

None of them. I work with James B Allen because he's got a ton of fantastic information in his brain and so perfectly complements my own expertise. I like working with someone like that -- your equal and fills in the gaps.

OK, I might work with Allen if he just came back from Cuba with a box of cigars.

I think working with Jay Abraham would be cool.

A lot of the information you see from other marketing experts originated from Jay.

Of course a lot of Jay's work was adapting the marketing principles of direct response direct mail marketing to other business models.

And a whole pile of his best principles come from marketing and copywriting masters of the past like Victor Schwab and Claude Hopkins.

But Jay has the score on the board helping his clients earn over $7 billion dollars in added revenue.

          Kindest regards,

Well I would have to say, my first choice would be Ed Dale. He has proven himself outside the IM World and also in the IM World. Ed is a very easy going type of guy and truly cares about helping people. He has proved this by having The Thirty Day Challenge for 4 years now and for FREE.

As far as I know I know I'm younger than he is. I'm sure I heard of Dan and even saw his ads, jut never read his stuff until much later. Actually, never read his stuff until quite a few years after I hit the Internet.

                Personally...

..I have to pick Allen Says..He gave me some great tip from the very
beginning that got me started with email marketing maybe he don't
remember but I used to get his Newsletter once in a while and I end up
earning some pretty good money with my first venture Email Video back
in those days..But that was it..I am not a net marketer, I don't like it
                to do business here..

unless it's for a good cause or something like that..

Another reason is that marketing here is so backwards or really I don't
or can't pin point what I'm trying to say..

Maybe by saying Frank Sinatra..he did it his way and so did I.

In the net, we need each other to make money but for the most
part we prefer SOLO instead of Networking together making it easier
for each other and more people would make more money..

As it is today and as it has been in the past..we haven't learn how
to multiply our dolllars that can make a lot of people rich a lot faster..

Here is what I am saying..

We start small make a little money..we invest in a bigger ticket item
and we continue to do that and before we know it we are Millionaires..

Of course, we need a Business Patttern and we need to stick with it..
                It can't fail..

Even though I suck big time when it comes to show an example, I really
don't have the time nor the energy..so maybe another time..

Is it hard to become a millionaire?..NOPE!..

One thing for sure..it is hard trying to do it as a SOLO!

                rey

P.S. I wouldn't dare to live like what I am worth..Why?..Because it takes
away the challanges that Life gives me however, I do go first class when
I party..well, in short yeah..I like to spend a lot of money when I party..

But for the most part..I have access to a very powerful mind that gives me
everything I want so heck, who needs all that money?

I'd probably pick Jay Abraham since I discovered him before Dan Kennedy... Although I wouldn't tell Dan Kennedy no if he wanted to work with me.

Jay is probably a better fit for most IMers as he's famous for running his seminars until 1-2 a.m. Dan Kennedy mentions in his time management book (which is a must-read) that he likes to start his day at 5-6 a.m.

Half of the IMers I know aren't going to bed until 5 a.m.

Here's an answer that might surprise a lot of people.

                            I have no idea.

I know nothing about any of these people other than what I've been told
by others. I'm not saying these people aren't successful. I just don't know
anything about them personally to make any kind of informed decision as to
who would be my best fit.

Who would be the best and most patient teacher, because I can ask a lot
                            of questions?

Who would be the best to fit my current methods to because I don't want
to have to gut my whole business model and start over from scratch?

Which one would I get the most out of and be able to take the knowledge
on my own and expand on it? I don't want to work with somebody who,
after I am done, ended up doing all the work because his stuff was so far
over my head that I got nothing more out of it than a paycheck.

So because I know nothing about any of these people personally, it's a
question that I just can't answer.

I second Steven, and my answer is... it depends. It depends on the unique situation, which includes the stage the business is at... the market you're in... and whole lot of other variables.

What I can tell you is I wouldn't choose most of the "Internet Marketing" marketers. Most can't or won't show measurable results for all those who apply their techniques and procedures. Forget the one-off odd ball home run testimonials.

I've had a look at many of the programs of the supposed "gurus" after I outgrew my previous business mentor of six years.

At the top of my list of those I don't recommend is Rich Schefren. Having two of my own offline business that each pay me six figures a year, I put Rich Schefren's BGS program to test to see if it lived up to his promise "I want to show you the easy way - and the right way to choose a business if you don't have one." The way I saw it, I had to test to see if I've got the right mentor.

My test was to go through the program, and apply it to a new legal entity I setup for the new experimental business. I also had the funding and resources to run the test.

At the end of the program, I had a new site, product, traffic, payment processing, et al. and unacceptable results... a write off if you will.

I recognized Rich Schefren's 100% assurance of success promise was too good to be true, but I didn't expect the bigger surprise I faced when I asked for a refund based on his sales promise "Here's your 100% assurance of success - Money back guarantee: after implementing my coaching, if you don't succeed at building your own hyper profitable business that runs and grows without you - then you won't owe me a red cent!"

The fact is Schefren and co. refused to issue the refund, or explain the reason for refusing to issue the refund - even when I met the conditions of refund.

I believe it's this sort of stuff that shows slick or sleazy sales tactics over substance. That's not what anyone should get from a business mentor.

For me, it's about having a proven and accountable mentor who can help produce measurable results. It's about having a mentor who teaches strong and ethical business practices that won't put my business at risk.

It's shouldn't be about about being targeted with seedy sales and marketing tactics... but that's just my rant.

Ultimately, it really all depends on your present needs.

                              CDM8

ps. there is one IM mentor I worked with and recommend, and that's Perry Marshall. His programs is all about directly measurable results.

p.p.s. the Schefren incident irked me so much I set my lawyer onto the matter.

                                hey cdm8,

Sorry to hear about your issues, at least you got the whole course.....lol.

I share your grief from a different angle. I have been trying, for over a month now. to get pieces of the BGS course that weren't sent to me, delivered without....any results. The support staff is horrible in my opinion.

It takes them days just to respond to my constant pleas to send me what I've paid for. I don't believe in....nor do I like the idea of coming in a public forum to introduce my problems but I've done just about everything I can to try to get what I've paid for. So now I'm just venting.

I'm getting tired of these guys not having any accountability. Things need to change to provide more security for customers.

Why should someone who has paid for something in full be treated like this, at the least, the other side that's not provided what they claim they will provide, should somehow be held accountable in some form.

Maybe it's possible that the top of the ladder isn't always aware of the problems happening a few levels down. But they should be. At least have thoroughly put together a plan in the case that something like yours and my problem actually do occur.

Speaks volumes about how well they run their business and care about the customers satisfaction. Seems all too familiar a cry that we hear about in this industry.

Not only can you learn from the information that you purchase, but sometimes you get an even sharper lesson just going thru the buying process.

Ironically, that's one thing I'm getting that I didn't pay for.

I actually had to turn Dan Kennedy down. He keeps calling, but I let it go to voice mail. I guess he does not get the hint.

I might consider letting JR work with me. have to think about it, but just thinking out loud here, I'd at least consider it. I like his lambo, and he's good on video.

Kern though... that guy, well, you know, he's pretty funny (not funny like a clown, but funny) and I think I can say I'd probably agree just for sh^&s and giggles. And, besides, I'd probably get an unadvertised JMO along with that deal, and I'd surely pull the trigger since JMO is involved. Then, we all get to make fun of Dr Mike, and that's just priceless.

If admin came calling... I'd say yes without hesitation. He's mysterious... likes cigars... and I'm pretty sure enjoys good cajun food, so we got a lot in common (except the mysteriousness, and monkeys)

And then there's Paul Myers. well, he's family, so done deal.

Rod Cortez, because he's one killer ass cool dude.

Chris Sutton because... well, I cant think of anything, but he likes Johnny Cash

.X. because he's got the best logo for a name in existence and knows his stuff on adwords.

Heck, I could go on forever.

I experienced the same bad service with another Rich Schefren program I purchased too.

I bought the Business Acceleration Program back in December, and was charged $79 for international shipping. The double kick in the mouth was the poor customer service and unapologetic response I got from them.

I had opened two different support tickets in January and it took days to get a reply saying I should call the office. I called but then no one answered the phone. Also, no one returned my call after I left a couple voice messages.

Eventually I got a hold of Paul Johnson, and he found their computer system had a glitch with my order. Nearly two weeks after my first support request, Strategic Profits sent out my order. The worse part was there was no apology... no consolation... nothing... just the full price for the program -- plus the full $79 shipping hit.

How's that for treating customers like... any joe blo crap?

As a customer who had already spent several thousands of dollars with Strategic Profits, I felt like I got a double slap to the face... with loads of bad bloody after taste.

Then to add insult to injury, I learned later the "12 module" BGS program only had 11 modules -- even though I still had to pay the remaining $400 for the 12th month without getting the last module.

I won't even rehash the salt in the wound refund refusal, except that it took it all over the top.

No matter how p*ssed I am with Strategic whatever, I can't help to laugh to hear Rich Schefren contradict his own teachings. In some cases, he says you've got to gain business momentum as fast as possible and worry about customer service later. In other cases, he says you've got to care about your customers because you can't afford to have the bad press in this day and age of "attention." He even went on to talk about how damaging bad social conversation and attention was for companies like Dell and Kryponite.

In my opinion, the contradiction is hypocracy, and sign of sleazy marketer instead of a great teacher. I believe it's a greed driven attempt to sell filler over measurably good useful advice.

p.s. don't even ask how many MONTHS I waited for the very final product I bought from Schefren. That one went to the FTC as a consumer complaint - of a sale without product. Have fun with the feds with that one Schefren!

p.p.s. pay heed Schefren sales buddies... play the sleaze game and the feds will be onto you... Kern can probable tell you all about the (millionnaire empire) experience at great length. It's a big party until the feds shut it down.

The only thing better than email addresses is cell phone numbers. His recent campaign to text message his VP choice was brilliant. Now he can contact people by phone or text message instantly - without waiting for them to check their email. He also doesn't have to worry about spam filters, etc.

Not to mention his Facebook, Twitter, Linked-in, and other web 2.0 presence.

I like this question There's only 2 big time marketers I've ever really paid attention to.

The first is John Reese. I got Traffic Secrets 1. I'd love to pick his brain and see if I can duplicate his success. I've always liked his work.

The second is Eben Pagan. I just like his approach and how easy going he seems. If I could make what he does in an hour I'd be REALLY happy He seems to really understand people and get into lots of difficult niches.

Lots of cool guys on your list, but the biggest gurus would have to be Michael Masterson, Rich Schefren and of course Dan Kennedy.

Now, those guys have some hardcore strategies, and not a fabricated personality. Their emails are full of content too, not rubbish like "Hey, here is another funny video of me goofing around that will waste your time and offer you NO marketing information whatsover, check this out"

I'm talking about the man who put the "priceless" in the MasterCard commercial!

I'm talking about the man who can get up and get away!

I'm talking about the man who can tell you where the beef is!

I'm talking about the man who obeys his thirst!

I'm talking about the man who is the real thing!

I'm talking about the one, the only, everybody's favorite teeter-totterer...

    Eric Louviere

and since no one bothered to mention some of the best people who are ladies, just let me also say I would love to work with Tiffany Dow, Kymi Standerline, Rachel Goodchild, Becky Hagel, Angela Edwards, Christy Knowlton, Anna Johnson, Lynn Terry, Debbie Bressler, Alice Seba, Janet Sawyer, AllisonG (okay, I just wanted to see if you were paying attention), Judy (zapseo) Koppenhoffenwiserwhatever-her-last-name-is, and others who I can't think of right now because my mind has gone blank. I'm sorry if I missed you!

I didn't mention Bev Clement because I talk to her every day and, besides, she can be mean to me sometimes. I didn't mention Mary Murtha because I talk to her a lot, too. She stays too busy to work with anyone, anyway.

I would work with any one of those ladies before I would most of the other guys mentioned because I have found that women marketers are much easier to work with. In my opinion, they are better team players and much more organized.

I'd choose someone like Ken McCarthy or Jay Abraham.

However, here's a mind technique that you can use to get advice from
      your marketing master right now.

Read all of their materials, listen to their audios, watch their videos and
just absorb yourself in their approach and philosophy. Get their material
      into your bones.

Then, in your mind's eye, imagine that they're in the room with you RIGHT
NOW disucussing your project with you.

Ask them some questions on your situation and imagine what advice they'd
give you if you were to ask them.

You'll be surprised at how 'on the money' some of the advice they give you is.

By the way, this technique is nothing new. Napoleon Hill mentions it in his
book Think & Grow Rich where he talks about having a mental board of
directors that you consult with anytime.

The neat twist about this is that you can have any marketing master - dead
or alive. So go on, you can even add Claude Hopkins, John Caples, Gary
      Halbert, Eugene Schwartz, etc.

Just add your own heros and sheros and ask away.

I have a mental board of directors for marketing, for copywriting and even
      for personal development.

I hope you find this useful.

      Best wishes,

      Shaun

David Vallieres - he is thoughtful, not at all pushy, and I love his style.

He also has fewer typos than many others. Typos for me are a complete turn off -- if the copy has typos, then I know the writer a) hasn't shown it to anyone or b) doesn't care enough to get it right. And if that's the case - then how valuable is the material?

The first article I ever read about IM was "Fail as Fast as Possible" - just great.
