I know everyone swears how great WP is but I usually end up swearing at it. Am I the only one? I know how to build websites. I've been a full time online for about 8 years and have built my share. Although my time is better spent doing other things, technically I'm pretty good. Today I spent 1.5 just trying to install a simple theme. (I've installed themes many times) It seems though that for some reason the latest WP update is causing problems with this particular theme. So I guess I'll forget it unless I want to waste more time on it. 2 weeks ago wanted to use a very popular theme on another blog that others recommended but I found get it to show properly no matter what I did. Thinking it was something simple I was doing I asked the guy who created it for help. He was great and worked on it for 2 days but finally gave up. He said there was something on the hosting site I was using but he finally gave up. More time wasted. I had blog that was going well for about 6 months. Last time I tried to login the WP admin panel it won't let me. It hasn't been hacked. After trying various things I tried contacting the guy I bought the theme from and he basically said, he didn't know, just try removing plugins. More time wasted and still can't login And don't get me started trying on how hard it is to change the look of most themes if you aren't very skilled with CSS. There's more but I won't bore you anymore. Anyway I'm sure there will be lots of responses from warriors telling me how they never have any trouble with WP. I only wish I could say the same thing. That's the problem with most free open source type of products. They are free up front but the probably cost you 10x the amount in time wasted since there isn't any real support. Oh well back to doing something productive. (it will have nothing to do with WP :-) RMX |

RMX, We all have our days, so don't feel lonesome. Did you try your WP installs with another host? It very well could be your web host has something set to "jinky". Dennis Wagoner |

Like Dennis said, It sounds like a problem with your host. I've had my share of wp problems in the past and it's always associated to a theme or plugin which are 3rd party apps. WP it self is fine though so you can't really blame it on that. There is all kinds of compatibility issues with some themes and plugins not playing nice with whatever version of WP your on. Check this page to see if there are any issues with your current version of WP and any plugins you might have active. http://codex.wordpress.org/Plugins/P...Compatibility/ |

9 times out of 10 when Wordpress gets wonky it is due to a plugin. Turn them all off then activate them one at a time to see if that is causing the problems.

Hi RMX: Hope things have settled down and the day is going better. I have had issues as well with Word Press over the years. One that never goes away is the speed or lack there of. Even with a top of the line computer an as fast of an internet connection as you could have if I make a change to a blog (even 1 word) once I click update post it takes so long that I go from clean shaven to having a beard the size of California. There are times if I past something from one post to another it shows all sorts of odd letters and numbers that have to be eradicated. The positive is that they don't charge a fee. My feeling is that they are the same as my web host, I would never brag about either but appreciate they exist and I can have a blog and website. May the night be great! |

Hi RMX I find wordpress infuriating and very strange to use. I am returning to html because my results are fine with these sites. There are so many people moving over to wordpress and evangelising that we should all do so that it is difficult to run against the crowd.
So while I have followed the crowd for a while and now have 15 wordpress based sites I hate the format. I am now back to producing html/css sites that load in seconds and are completely successful for my niches. I hope no one reads this post |

Relax, kenj - I didn't read the post. Apart from the bit between the beginning and the end... ![]() Pre-WP 2.5 I used to find WordPress a bit cranky (although it's possible that was down to my inexperience as much as anything else). These days it's pretty trouble-free, and something I can usually rely on to go right in my day. I'd like to say 'Goodbye' to Dolly though - it gets a bit tiresome deleting her |

Thanks for all the suggestions. As for the theme problem being something with my host. That is a possibility however many other themes work fine, just not the 2 I wanted to use. It can't be plug in's. It's brand new and I haven't activated any plugins I know plugins can be a problem so on the active site where the admin suddenly isn't showing properly so I can't login in, I deativated the plugins and still no luck. WP hates me and the feeling is becoming mutual. RMX |

I don't use WP, just because I'm doing fine with regular html/php sites. I find it much easier to manage -long term. But IF I should choose to go for WP, I would subscribe to a service like Firepow. Change themes and everything else with the click of a button! Maybe you should give it a try. They have a money back guarantee. |

Wordpress is solid. I've never had something I wanted to do with WordPress that I couldn't - either via a plugin or by getting in to the code a bit (or a combination of the two). ANY new software is going to piss you off and require some learning ... WordPress has a fantastic payoff for getting beyond that. I can crank out NICE looking websites with great features, great onpage SEO, etc. extremely quickly. CSS is a basic skillset these days if you're doing HTML development. If you want to stay in tables & font tags you're going to be limited mostly to working with your own code. Spend two days with a good CSS book and do some coding and you'll quickly learn to love it. Makes our jobs MUCH easier. PS, post some details if you want help (or Google the details). Something like "my theme doesn't display properly" doesn't put anyone in a position to help you. If you're seeing an error like (for example) "Your attempt to activate the plugin has failed" popping up on the top of your screen ... that's something to work with. |

I used to hate WP in the beginning ....nothing ever worked ie I couldn't do anything and now I love it. Sounds like it is your web host causing problems for you. Another solution for you to "feel" out WP and see if your relationship can turn into love is to try WordPress Direct. You can set up three wordpress blogs on it for free using their hosting (if you wish) or yours but using their system where the themes and plugins that you can choose from should all work without hassle. All the best Leanne |

| Not true. You're simply lacking a little in experience, are new to the platform or have perhaps struck unlucky with a hosting issue. It's likely that you can still do things that 'gifted' WordPress users can't (communicate without offending, maybe), and you'll either get to know and love WordPress or find an alternative that suits your style |

In my first and only experience using word press currently...I must say it has been a dream...the easy install and uninstall of plugins as well as overall customizability and the fact it is all free is amazing to me |

I'm with Diana. Dolly has got to go! ![]() WP has got a bit of a learning curve I must say. I'm pretty happy they have finally made it easy to update though. Good luck with it. Brett. |

Wordpress as a platform is fantastic however if you try to use plugins and themes that are written by amateurs you will always have problems. The same applies to any platform you use. Html coding can be just as frustrationg if you use inferior tools. The secret of using wordpress is use themes and plugins that have a good community following them and are reguarily updated. This will not only help to secure your program but make doing the things you want to do much easier. Have a look at our overview. Wordpress | The Internet Marketers Club Quentin |
