Things to consider when picking a niche

When building a list and send affiliate offers to that list, then I guess we can't pick any niche.

I'm thinking of two approaches:
  1. Pick a niche that's solves a problem, and that's gonna be around for ever.
  2. Pick a niche that your passionate about and will make it easier to stick to in the long term
OK, so if you got lucky both options will fall in place, so what you're interested in may also be a hot niche.

As being a newbie when trying to build a list, I figure that the niche also has to be in a field where we can cover several needs in that niche.

So let say we send offers about "hair restoration" and let's say that it's the best solution out there. Then they just gonna purchase once and be happy with that product. End of story !!! Then they don't want to buy anymore

On the other hand, if we choose a niche where people want to buy different things within that niche, then they might be willing to spend money on several products. For example, a niche like mountain climbing, then we could send them an offer like a book about mountain climbing, all sorts of equipment, videos/movies etc. OK, maybe a bad example, but I mean a niche that is a hobby is so much broader.

Or we could cover several needs in the money making niche like "Wordpress templates", "Some software helping withkeywords research", "How to send traffic" etc.

So this is what I'm looking for a long term niche where people want to spend on several product within that niche.

Doesn't this sound like a good idea? I think so

Sounds good! Try to find a niche that gets a lot of traffic that has no competition. Sometimes just a basic subject like hair restoration will drive tons of traffic on just that one subject

  • New peopel go bald every day.
Peopel max out on how much gear they'll buy in a year.

Hair is a vanity thing, so rationale thinking goes out the window and they'll hock their grandma's soul to get their hair back.*

    Kelty backpacks...not so much.

*also applies to aspiring writers and IM'ers.

To make it simpler and to sum up what you said, there are really only two real criteria for making money in a niche: it should be profitable and one that you have an interest in because you're gonna have to stick with it to see success. Highly-profitable niches will not only have lots of products but many sub-niches within it.

You also have to remember that in a highly-profitable niche that there will be always be newbies who have just entered the niche and who have come across your stuff for the first time -- who will naturally want to sign up for your list when they like the quality of your stuff. People who have found what they need and succeed with it will naturally unsubscribe. It's a cycle. Get it?

You also have those niches like video games, electronics, sports, fashion...where the merchants are also releasing newer or updated versions of older products, so people who have a passion for stuff like that will often buy the newer stuff and get rid of their older stuff -- even if it still works. I personally am cheap and see that as a waste of money (unless it's given to charity or something), but I know people who do it all the time.

    Good luck,
    Joey

"Pick a niche that's solves a problem, and that's gonna be around for ever."

    I like this approach better.
