Jeeze, this question is showing up a lot lately. You'll hear a ton of people solo ads. Personally, I prefer content syndication, explained here:

I think solo ads are great for growing your list quickly, like you mentioned. Just remember that once on your list, you really need to take care of these folks with great content, and always give more than you get.
Joe mentions article syndication and this is always a great way to grow a list. It just takes a bit longer, but I feel the quality of the subscriber is better.
      Thanks

      Yea, second that.

Just write an article and syndicate it to as many article directories as possible. Then it's all about the content that affects how many leads you'll get

Fixed that for you. Mass submitting to directories isn't syndication, it is article directory marketing. That is nothing more than a great way to waste a ton of time for literally zero benefit.

If you think solo ads are great for your business.
    Stick to it buddy.
Be very good at it and when you have profit from
it enough, scale it up and do more solo ads.

Certainly solo ads. To me, there is nothing better than it. But you have to keep patience to get a good result from it and also requires some smart works. However, all strategy may not give success to all. When you are getting success in solo ad, just concentrate on it. It's a very good way and it will give you a very good list as well.

There are a lot of different techniques, and how successful they are does depend to some extent on what your site is like, what you are promoting, and what you are trying to acheive.

I've had a lot of success with a method that has kinda gone out of fashion - Yahoo Answers. But just because it is not trendy does not mean that it doesn't work.

A good technique I'm training people to use in 2012.
    1. Stong piece of viral content on a blog.
    2. Submit that piece to Synnd to get social indicators.
    3. Submit a press release if it is a newsworthy piece.
    4. Use "Covert Messenger" popup to gain subscribers.
    5. Bring all curent subscribers to that piece of blog content.
    6. Rinse and repeat.

But how do you know if a piece of content qualifies as viral or not?

I like using Google alerts to find blogs in my niche and then comment on them. There are a few of them that get me residual traffic, but you need to keep doing it until you make a few gems. A good tip is only bother with commenting on what appear to be established high quality sites.

    • So maybe just to give a different perspective on your question;

I know you are referring to 'advertising techniques' but one factor that we must always get right for our advertising efforts to pay off is to write Quality Material.

The Value Proposition is probably the most important part of developing your copy. And you can use this information (VP) in your headlines as well in the body.

Your leads are looking for solutions to their problems. They are not looking for funny stories, or to be sold to; they want to find the best available solution to remedy that itching problem that's keeping them up at night!

Give your audience solutions to their problems, and tell them why your qualified to solve, and why your product is the best available solution.

Find different keywords to use, in your VP and copy, and test each one. Then you will have maximum conversion on all of your advertising methods.

      Happy Copy / Happy Advertising
      RMD

P.S. Please give a thanks if you like this post or you feel inspired to maximize your conversion rates using Value Proposition in your copy.

    Hello Mark Healy,

For me the best traffic tecniques for my business are the following traffic exchange, solo ads, forum commenting and youtube videos.

Here are two videos example of traffic exchange sites.

There're many viable options to drive traffic to your site/offer, what's the best for you depends on the nature of your site..

For example, if you're promoting weight loss products, health and wellness products or any other products where your primary target audience are females, then I'll say Pinterest will be your best traffic resource.

On the other hand, if you're selling an IM product, forum traffic and solo ads maybe your best shoot..and so on.

Define your target audience first and you'll be able to determine the best way to drive traffic to your sites.

I like these 4 traffic sources because they won't ever dry out:

Article Marketing (Writing QUALITY content only)
    Banner Advertising
    PPC & Paid Traffic
    SEO

And my advice to my clients is to always focus on ONE traffic source at a time.

It's too easy to dabble into each one ...but in the end, focusing on ONE traffic source and split testing to achieve the highest ROI is the best route to take (from my experience).

I have a mixture of free and paid traffic generation methods in my campaign.

For paid traffic, I like to use solo ads. For free method, I like to use content marketing.

Traffic is just one part of the equation. It is important to track and improve the conversion too.

Absolutely, undeniably, without a shadow of a doubt.... the best traffic source in the world is:

The one you have most experience with!

Was my answer exciting enough for you? =]

But seriously, for me, I generate lots of traffic from craigslist and youtube. For only 1 reason, I've been using those 2 for the longest. So I know how to use them.

Someone will likely come in and say PPC is their best, because they know how to use it better than I do.

Or facebook, because they know how to use it better than me and the next person.

Thats why my advice is just pick 1, and master it to the point where it becomes your "safety net". Then move onto to learning another method. Master it, make it your second "safety net", then another ... and another. Eventually you'll have so many safety nets, that if you lose one, you just move back to the previous, while learning another.

      Sound confusing? I hope not.

      -John

ps. Don't try to master 1001 different techniques. For the first couple years, I'd limit yourself to 4-5 max. See how they work out for you, then change things down the road. But whatever you do, never stick with just 1 method forever and ever. Thats a great way to go out of business.

There are hundreds of ways to get traffic and make money, but I think that you should stick with SOLO ADS! Solo Ads are going to be the easiest and fastest way to get leads and sales and be able to build your list...

If it is working for you so far then keep it up! Good Luck

So many people continually saying solo ads are great for traffic and building a list but the reality is most solo ads are crap. You can build a big list but it's usually unresponsive freebie seekers who get passed from list to list and never open any emails or buy.

For me it's YouTube, but I kind of do it differently than most people. I make entertainment videos and make money purely off ad revenue, as opposed to affiliate and CPA offers, etc. It was a hobby that kind of became a major income stream for me.

YouTube is an awesome traffic driver if you know how to harness it, but it's not easy and takes a lot of work. Probably more than most other methods of making money online.

Personally the best and fastest way I make huge lists is through PPV. I just use a simple optin page and have some high volume keywords. This is also relatively cheap and very fast way to have huge subscribers.
