Did I pick an Un-Monetizable Niche?

A couple of months back I started a niche site and planned for it to be monetized by adsense and amazon links.

Now, this was a very specific niche with an EMD. Without revealing the niche itself, I'll just say it's about installing a different operating system on a specific cell phone.

On the site I all I have is one post - a very detailed guide with links and resources on how to install the OS on the phone. (In addition the the about me, privacy, contact, ect..)

I had somewhat forgotten about the project since I really didn't know what else to put on there. People looking for that exact keyword were just interested in that, reading the guide, and not necessarily spending any money.

The blog is now getting about 70 uniques a day, all organic from Google. The thing is, I'm not sure which angle to pick and try to really get some money out of the site.

Since I didn't know what to offer them in exchange for joining my list, I decided to offer them a .PDF version of the guide I already have listed online.

It worked, and is bringing me about 5 subs a day.

So, any suggestions on what would be the best way to possibly monetize my site? Besides Adsense and Amazon - already doing those. Or just continue to build my email list until I have something they'd be interested in?

Thanks.

Always continue your email list no matter what. But as far as other ways to earn from it just study your visitors, location, gender, age, interests, ect... This will give you an idea of what you will have the most success with.

    Wrong niche?

I stongly advise you to fall into a niche that holds importance to you. If you do that all you content will come accross with passion and meaning, this builds trust and improves sales.

    Thanks

I think generally no matter what it is, every niche has it's own way to being monetize actually. A thorough research actually helps alot. Always plan ahead before you execute it.

I agree with you. This was the first niche site I made, and it was mainly to get familiar with ranking keywords that weren't super competitive.

Now that I've accomplished that, I was curious to know what creative ways I could possibly implement to monetize a non-buying keyword.

If there's not, I'll simply just let the site be. I have other projects as well.

The only reason I don't like posting my sites on there (or any other sites/forums unrelated to my niche) is because I've had many of my articles ripped by other members. Not the ones that are trying to help, but others who happened to lurk by.

In essence, I'm ranking for a keyword which people searching for aren't looking to spend money on.

It's a guide on how to modify/improve a specific cell phone. Advertising other phones won't work, and most people looking for the guide already own the phone. At the moment I'm advertising accessories.

It has crossed my mind to scrap the current setup of the site, and simple sell the guide for a small fee - say $4.

Although I don't know how that would affect my rankings, since many of the keywords I'm ranking for are in the guide itself. Plus, I have a lot of links to external sources, and am assuming I'd have to get permission from everyone to link to them and re-distribute their free creations for a profit.:rolleyes:

I could also offer them a cut, but given the limited potential in this niche, I'd rather devote all that energy into something more profitable.

Try some CPA offers. Especially the cell phone related offers.

  • Ring tones and phone cases?

What was your plan to monetize it when you first started the site?

Mr Caffeination beat me to it, here: I was thinking ringtones. Don't people make a lot of money selling downloadable ringtones?

Since you're talking about a specific phone, could you find some apps with affiliate schemes? Then email your list with regular reviews of apps for their phone.
