Clickbank Robbing You Or Me Or ...

Hey guys, I noticed my conversion rates dropping to an incredibly ridiculous rate. It all started from 01 Mar. Prior to that, my conversions have been around 1:50 to 70, ie 1 sale per 50 to 70 hoplinks.

Since 01 Mar, it dropped to 1:150 - 200. And it has been happening for 5 straight days. This is worse than a stock market dive!

Well, nothing has changed on my end. I don't use PPC but rely only on search engine traffic. My traffic sources and statistics remain healthy. So these factors remain status quo.

So cetera paribus, the only guess I have is either:

1. Something drastic happened in the US economy (but there are no major shocking news!) and people are holding back their spending suddenly.

2. Clickbank's hoplink and tracking system has gone crazy and I am not credited for my sale! I have been ROBBED!

3. A lull period has hit ... well, this will depend on what is happening to every marketer isn't it?

What do you think? What is your experience? Did the same thing happen to you?

Same thing on my end. This is also mentioned on some other threads here and on other forums. I have also checked in at times where all of my stats were gone for hours at a time. they have always come back but, i have gone from making about 10 sales a day on a few products to none for up to 6 days straight. something is wrong and i think it's clickbank but, they won't admit it.

Yes my friend, my situation is as bad as yours. For my statistics, the sales conversion rates are horrific to say the least. Initially, I was thinking it was just me but now, it seems that it has hit more than just myself. My sales went down by 60% during this period.

I should check with Clickbank and ask them what is going on. But I suspect they might not say anything. But if we have the strength in numbers, I may well ask them to explain for what is happening to all of us.

Band together and knock at their doors?

What if you tried to buy your own product and see if the sale gets credited? We can cross check the validity of the sales this way.

      Hi jrianto,

I wished we could do that and know the true picture. With a small sample size, it is hard to know what is really going on?

Even if we do get credited for the one sale, I am afraid it still does not tell us what is happening in our neighbors' courtyard?

So, are you also affected in those days I mentioned?

Can you disclose your niche or niches?

I've noticed an increase in sales with PDC but that's for Internet marketing related.

Also, I noticed a general increase of sales today in make money type niches but that simply might be because of the job filling disclosure of something like 650,000 for Feb. so more and more folks will be looking for other ways to make money because of fear of job loss.

The only thing that I've noticed that changed in the financial sector that's not the some old crap is the stock market getting under 7,000 and breaking a couple support lines. Today it hit about 6,600 at close and getting way too close to 6,250 another major support line.

        Cheers,

          Hi Dean,

I am not in the IM niche, or rather not as active in the IM niche than others. I cover a wide range of niches.

Your point about IM-related sales could be very well right and spot on. A slow economy with rising fears of job losses is good reason for people to start delving online for new income sources.

What is PDC by the way?

Well, All I can say is that you probably have been ROBBED.

I too have been experiencing mad fluctuations on almost all my CB niches, but much less on my other products from other marketplaces.

Similar CB stats as yours 1 : 50 - 200, sometimes total drought too.

I have been monitoring this trend since January when all sales are on a high, then nosed dived. They are clever though, they do not totally drought you out. They will sprinkle some sales on and off over a period a a few days.. Unlike the consistent sales we get on a daily basis.

It is obvious that CB has tracking issues, be it incidental or deliberate. It is very very unbecoming of such a huge set up not to address and acknowledge the situation and clean up their act. Till now, NO ONE for CB, has stood up publicly and address these issues.

I am moving most of my products out of CB soon, and will still keep an eye on CB. I predict the huge can of worms will spill within less than 6 months from now.

I cannot imagine how a marketplace can survive without affiliates. Affiliates get motivated with the consistency of sales, and vice versa. They get very demoralised when they see sudden long dives in sales, albeit the tons of hardwork put into the niches. They will leave if this situation persist. There is absolutely no point in affiliates working so hard simply to drive traffic to the products, only to benefit CB. Imagine if you were selling another product with another marketplace with the same amount of effort.

Sometimes, I just don't understand why some people have to go shoot themselves in their foot when they are running such a successful huge marketplace setup. There is definitely something fishy going on inside CB.

      Hi Yoshiko,

That's how I feel as well. It is a multi-million dollar setup with a rock solid business model. I simply cannot understand why it cannot resolve a simple issue - hoplink tracking.

Imagine the whole setup crumbling because of a "link". That sounds ridiculous but I seriously wouldn't want to see that happening.

As an affiliate and vendor, it is disappointing to see that. As an affiliate, we do not want our efforts to go down the drain. As a vendor, I feel for my affiliates who spend good time and money to promote my products. I feel a sense of duty towards them and if it is all because of a hoplink issue??

They have all the necessary resources to put a stop to the problem. I just cannot understand why they will not unless they have no intention to?

I would really love to hear them tell us what is happening. To be totally transparent with folks like us who work hard to make them rich.

With so much negativity surrounding ClickBank, why don't people seek alternate 3rd party affiliate programs? I've personally never heard anything bad about PayDotCom.com.

    There are alternatives to ClickBank.

here you go - PDC is a graveyard.. it seems like everytime i look for a product there, the links lead to a nonexistant/dead site.

Every single option when it comes to affiliate marketing is simply a lesser of the evils

cause paydotcom cant touch clickbank. Its not even close. PDC has a LONG way to go to compete with CB.

      Agree with Jason.

Paydotcom has very dated products, the vendors either never update their products, or simply run away with commission. I saw my commissions disappear together with vendor into cyber space......

When I do product research and check out the vendors, their products tells of neglect.

PDC is a dated marketplace except, of course, it does have a handful of good products. Such a shame too...

Shareasale.com maybe? Anyone has a comment?

So yall dont think its cookie stuffing? Maybe the sales page or there is some new black hat method out there were they can stuff cookies on your sales page but it is random? Because this is something that is being complained about over several forums and blogs.

What I would do is maybe create a link that goes to another page that they have to click on your hop link so that its not straight from your main page incase it was compromised in some way. Then you could tell if its cookie stuffing or some other item? I dont know much about cookie stuffing but have read about it in several blogs. I am sure someone has found a way to eat at everyones sales same as people scrap pennies off bank accounts Just hoping you dont notice.

        My 2 cents.

I would just try to see if I could change some stuff and see if that changes your results. To many people complaining for it not to be something.

This is indeed worrying. But my experience from using Clickbank as a vendor has been good. At least I see that all the sales are made through my affiliates' hoplinks. But to be fair, I am not exactly sure if the tracking id is giving problems to the affiliates.

What about the rest? Are you going through the same thing?

Clickbank has to remain in business as well and it won't be in business if it starts robbing all it's affiliates. The fact remains that they really aren't robbing anyone. I am an affiliate myself and I am promoting about 20 clickbank products all together.

I see almost no sales in some niches while increased sales in others. Yes there are bad days and then there are great days.

And technically speaking clickbank can't really rob anyone's money. It's a payment processor which gets a share from each sale but the sale doesn't get credited to clickbank. It gets credited to the publisher and the affiliate.

So either way clickbank can't really steal anything from you.

There are only two possibilities in life- Results or Reasons...If you aren't getting the desired results then adapt because giving reasons to why you could not get the desired results will take one no where.

Assuning that you are an affiliate, have you considered contacting the vendor of the products you promote and asking them if they have seen a drop in sales on the days you have.

If they have not, ask them if there has been a surge in sales from a new affiliate id.

If the answer is yes, then it is possible that the new affilaite has somehow stuffed cookies on to your traffic - check for adware or malware on your computer. And then report to ClickBank that vendor (id) has experienced a surge in sales from affilaite(id) while at the same time your(id) has seen a massive drop.

In my experience ClickBank are pretty good at checking things out if they are give adequate information to work on. But if all you can do is moan that your sales are down, all they can do is look at the overall picture and report that nothing seems amiss.

To the OP - your list of possible reasons why your sales are down is incomplete.

Two far more likely possibilities are:

          1. Your website has been compromised
          2. The vendor's website has been compromised

To check the latter, try making a clean duplicate of your affiliate page (check that there is no code on it that you haven't personally put there) and putting it on a clean domain (preferably on different hosting). Redirect from your old affiliate page to the new one.

If your sales improve, there is a good chance that there is something bad on your site. If not, there is a chance that there is something bad on the vendor's site.

I posted on the other thread but seems most just want to see things one way and blame clickbank.

As a publisher yes I can track exactly where an affiliates traffic is coming from and what is happening. As an affiliate if I was sending a lot of traffic to some site and all of a sudden not getting sales what would I do? Well I don't think the solution would be to come and post here, I would approach the publisher. I know as a publisher myself if someone that was sending me a lot of traffic wanted to know what was up I sure would be interested as I know if things didn't get fixed I would eventually lose them as an affiliate and that would be a loss in sales.

It is very easy to track and find out exactly what is up.

It's Clickbank. I've been experiencing the most unnatural things. How the hell do you go from a great week, a new pay period starts and you get 7 straight zeros. I mean 7 STRAIGHT ZEROS. It's not like they randomly started. They started right when the pay period changes. I complain at the end of the week and magically it starts working again.

Clickbank is doing something on their side. I don't know what it is, but nothing will ever convince me otherwise.

That is not really accurate. They receive 100% of the funds, then credit the 2 parties. It is their merchant account and paypal account that gets credited the entire purchase price. That is why they use terms along the lines of "we are buying your product from you at wholesale", and why they handle refunds.

To clarify, I fully understand that there are bad days as well as good days. As I am spread over 20 niches, I can presumably say that I have got a good sample size to know what is happening.

If they are all in the same niche and a dive happens, I have reasons to point that to a fixed set of parameters that have changed. But if those niches are completely different, then it seems strange for all conversion rates to drop simultaneously! So, I can quite confidently rule out that either my website or vendor's site has gone bad.

And since I own multiple CB accounts, I find it equally mysterious to see some of my accounts see spikes in sales.

So, if you ask me, something strange is going on.
