Question about video downloads from my membership site

Hi guys

I have just completed my first membership site, and I have an option for my customers to download the tutorial videos below each video. I have put the links like this:

h t t p://mydomain.com/videos/video1.zip

My question is, if I have a multitude of customers trying to download each video from my host, does this compromise my bandwidth/hosting/website performance in any way?

I'm only on a baby plan with hostgator and this domain is a subdomain (will it affect my other sites speed too?!)

I'm reluctant to go to amazon s3 as yet, so hoping to clear this up. Cheers

Definitely will! I'd highly recommend getting set up with an Amazon S3 account to host your videos. You only pay for what you use and it's free for the first year. The alternative is to overload your server and have your site go down.

Yes it'll affect on your site speed and other people sites too that are on the same shared server.

better if you should move on to amazon s3 for better speed and performance.

    ok thanks guys! pheeww

hmm i've heard mix experiences with people using s3, majority say it's really affordable, but others say they were bleeding through their noses on their first week of use with minimal traffic?!!?

What can I expect roughly in terms of $$ amounts a week/month for average site traffic?

It completely depends on the kind of traffic you get. Here's the pricing so you can check it out...Amazon Simple Storage Service (Amazon S3)

It depends on how much traffic you're SURE to get, if you don't think you're gonna get over 10 people at once, I wouldn't worry. But, if you are, get S3.
