This may be straight forward easy to many, but it honestly has me stumped.
I cannot access my website or cpanel, from my home computer or cell phone using my WIFI, it has timed out. Several others have tried and say there are no issues. Why would I be able to access most everything else on the internet but not that? But other people can access it? I maybe having a brain fart here, but it is really frustrating me right now. Please offer suggestions. Site is in my sig.
Thanks in advance.

One of my webhosts has a system in place that blocks your ip if you make too many attempts to sign-in to cpanel or online email. It's to prevent bruce force login attempts. Maybe your host has the same system in place. If so, it will reset itself after a few hours.

I always know when it's happened to one of my clients as the symptoms are exactly as you've described.

You might be able to reset it yourself, but I don't think it would help if I copied my own hosts instructions as it probably wouldn't work for yours.

Actually, in case it helps, here's a link to their knowledgebase describing the problem http://www.betterwebspace.com/client...&catid=4&id=15

Another thought. My router sets a new ip address each time it is restarted. You could try restarting your router, in case yours does the same thing.

Hmm, seems like a proper doozy there my friend. Just so you know I could access your website fine from the UK. Hope you find the solution soon.

I guess you already tried browser restart or using a different browser to make sure it's not some browser caching issue. I can access the site, it loads fast

@rosetrees, thanks, but this has been going on for a couple of days. I honestly don't even visit my site that much.

Tried several browsers and my cell phone. Do you think I should try and reset my WIFI router?

~Definitely. When I edited my first post (which you probably read before the edit) I suggested that as I know that my router resets the ip address when it's restarted.

(that can have interesting consequences. My ip address usually puts me in Sheffield, but a few weeks ago it put me in Madrid in Spain. I wasn't aware that I'd left the country and I don't live in Sheffield, either.)

who do you use as a web host? Those symptoms are just so specific, I'm finding it hard to believe it could be anything else. Does anyone else in your house use email associated with the site?

See if you can access your site via a proxy like pagewash.com. If you can pull it up there then I believe it would be an issue with your IP.

Came up in pagewash, having just powercycled my router, any other ways to fix an ip issue.

If it's coming up in pagewash then I believe you have a blocked IP issue. I had something like this happen to me a long time ago and unless I remember wrong, I had to call my ISP to have them unblock the site IP. It was a while ago now, but I think that's what I did to fix it...

go to whatsmyip.com and check your ip address.

Then restart the router and go back to the site to see if your ip address changes.

woops - that should be whatsmyip.org, I think

Googled and did a release and renew of IP, using IP config in command prompt, still an issue. Looks like I will have to call my ISP

Call your web host, and see if they have blocked you. If they haven't, call your ISP. One of them has.

Sorry - cross posted. I'm guessing web host, but I'm waiting to be wrong!!

    Let us know.

Between calls to your hosting company and your IP company , they should lead you in the right direction, leave it to the experts and get some rest while you get them to figure it out..

Sounds to me like your IP has been blocked by the server firewall. First step should be contact your web host....

I would suggest you contact your "web host". If you can access other sites, I highly doubt your ISP is going to be able to do anything...

I'm surprised you waited days to contact them. Don't be afraid to crack the whip every now and then (as long as you're nice about it). :p This is a service you're paying them to provide you.

It's possible he is hosting with his ISP.

Contacted ISP, unable to help, left message for my Hosting Company, their web site is not coming up either so it took me a while to get a number for them. Not very happy with my hosting company right now.

That's no bueno! I've been using Hostgator for years and they've always been great to work with, problems or not. Maybe time to switch?

Check your domain with winmtr.net (downloadable WIN app) to see if there happens to be a problem on one of the hops from you to the hosting provider.

    Other possibilities:

    1. Something (you, manually, or some program/trojan/virus) edited your hosts file c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts
Unlikely but if your domain is listed there (it shouldn't be) remove the line (need to open editor with admin privileges).

    2. DNS issue. Try using Google DNS instead of that of your ISP: https://developers.google.com/speed/...dns/docs/using
You can change that back later

My web designer friend thinks the "free" WP template may have contained some worm, that is why my IP was blocked.

I use Wordpress exclusively and build all my own themes using Artisteer. It's a cool program that easy to use and I highly recommend it. I haven't used free or paid themes since I bought it close to 2 years ago now!
