Tons of clicks and no conversions

I thought of posting this in the CPA networks section, but this talk is about an actual campaign on a CPA network, not about CPA networks themselves.

I recently started my first few campaigns with a mobile CPC ad network, so I was pretty excited about this new journey. After I set things up, and checked everything to make sure they are all pointing in the right direction and so on, I saw the impressions start to roll in. To make a long story short, I got a lot of clicks, but no conversions.

The pre-sell page I used was recommended by my CPA network, to run it with a specific CPC network who mainly did mobile advertising. Ok, some of the campaigns were not tested in the other countries I tried, but still, the landing page was the same.

So, I want to ask all of you more experienced IMers, is this normal? Just some simple examples of what I have been getting. Keep in mind this is just the beginning of my journey, but without a conversion, I just don't know how much more money I can sink into it before waving the white flag.

300 clicks, no conversions.
167 clicks, no conversions.
163 clicks, no conversions.

Those are the 3 campaigns with the most clicks, to be used as reference in my post. Again, hopefully you more experienced Warriors can helpfully point out what I might be doing wrong, and how I can improve it.

Thanks a bunch.

I'm not too experienced with cpa, but I know conversions and those conversions suggest that your campaign is poor, the only options are:-

    Find a new camapaign
    Tweak this one
tweak your traffic - where does your traffic come from, is it targeted, is it trash traffic such as ad.fly or something?

Something is obviously a miss and I'm willing to bet its your traffic!!!

This campaign has been running in another country for about 4 weeks, and has done really well. So, I wanted to do it in other countries, in addition to that one.

I might be able to tweak this one, by asking my CPA network more in depth questions as to the vertical to place the ads in, and so on. In the CPC ad network back end, I mainly targeted the ones that showed up doing well from the Excel sheet that was given to me, which mainly showed Android phones. And they did well.

But yeah, I will try to see if I can tweak the traffic sources. At the moment though, it seems as though the campaign is locked, meaning if I wanted to tweak the settings, then I would have to start a new campaign. I guess if I have to do it that way I will, but I am hoping to just alter the ones I currently have going so I don't have to wait the day or so for the CPC network to approve it.

      Thanks for the feedback.

And I just want to add, those clicks went from the mobile devices to the pre-sell page that I mentioned was doing well. The actual amount of clicks that was done on that pre-sell page to the actual offer page was 1.

So, from just over 600 clicks to the pre-sell page, only 1 made it even to the actual offer page.

You should be getting at least a 1 - 2% conversion rate on average.

Where are you getting most of your traffic from?

Most of the times you'll get a better response with a warm list rather than a cold traffic source.

How overworked or how many other people are working the same campaign? Sounds like you're getting them to click but they bounce after seeing your page.

Makes me think if your CPA Network is recommending it to you they're probably recommending it to others ... and the page is simply overworked already.

Good for them, but not for you though.

            The Niche Man,

I was thinking the same thing. This pre-sell page has been used for the past 4 weeks, at the tested country. So, I can see it being overused there, but I am also running this campaign to other countries.

            More details:

It was tested for Australia, so it was suggested by the CPA network to run it there. I did, but I also expanded to other regions, such as the UK, Ireland, Singapore, and Malaysia. From this list of countries, the one that is somewhat similar to Aus. is the UK. So I thought ok, it should do somewhat similar to what was happening in Aus. But it was total opposite.

And I am not sure about the rules of namedropping the CPC network I am using, so if I am doing something against the rules, mods, please blank it out. It's Leadbolt, for mobile devices (my CPA network is mobile-only).

I just spoke with my AM, and I gleamed this new info from her:

The CPA offer is still going strong, and she showed me the stats of a current campaign, which showed around 100 or so clicks, with about 20-30 conversions. Meaning, this thing still has legs.

I asked her maybe I am targeting the wrong crowd, so what category of people were used for the tests, and ongoing, she said all. That is the setting I have it at, which is broad, but similar to what they had running in the tests, and currently running.

    -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
This AM is relatively inexperienced to give me further assistance, so she referred me to someone who seems to know more about CPA stuff than her. He will be going through things with me a little later on, to zone in on why things are not going well for me.

In the meantime, I really would like some feedback from other Warriors, who after reading the posts in this thread, especially this new post, think they can give a different perspective.

    Much appreciated.

Well, I spoke with the more experienced AM, and he told me to target one OS, cutting out the rest. So I did, but I don't see a huge difference from before. The one thing I did do on my own is cut down the categories to not be "all", and to really narrow it down to two categories that I thought suit for it.

Well, I must say, one country that I am running this offer saw my ctr% go from about low 2% to about high 7%. Still no conversions, but I do think cutting the categories to a tiny handful really helped a lot. I will soon try this out on the tested country to see if it raises the ctr% there as well.

If it does, great, but again, I am still looking at that conversion rate. If after targeting only 1 OS, and targeting the max 2 key categories and still no conversions (in a still well converting country for this offer with the same pre-sell page), I don't know what else to do.

Thanks for everyone who has dropped in on this thread to take a peek at a noob CPAer facing the harsh realities of CPC marketing.
