Written format or Video?

Hey everyone,

Just wanted to post this short question to get a feel for what the general opinion is on this.

When you get a report or WSO what format do you prefer to have the content in,
video or a PDF?

Opinions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

It depends what type of content is being shared.

If it's standard information, then I tend to prefer PDFs
because I can then quickly read through the material.

If it's something that's harder to explain in words (like
a software demonstration) then I prefer a video.

I generally prefer a PDF. I'm a very fast reader and I can skip over the parts I don't need or want. It drives me nuts to sit through even one 20 min. video, and I usually won't do it. If a video is only about 5 min. I might watch it.

I HATE getting a 50 page eBook when I buy a product. I only like buying products that are in video format and I only create products that are in video format.

And I'm just the opposite. I hate having to sit through 50 - 10 minute videos that could have easily been explained in a 50 or less page PDF. If there isn't a PDF version, I don't buy it.

If it is an instructional product, like how to use a software
or build a website etc. then I prefer a video. If it is only
informational then give me the PDF.

There are certain products that lend themselves to "show me"
    rather than "tell me".

I try to provide BOTH for my products.

I prefer both. As long as the video and PDF isn't super long to go through.

I prefer text and occasionally video. The problem with video is anyone and everyone with a video camera is making them and many of these people are clueless. Not necessarily clueless about what they know, but about how to effectively put it across so people understand it.

Video is so popular now it is almost the expected format. Text is easier to skim for information.

People also have different modes of learning (visual, auditory, kinesthetic, etc) so it may be beneficial to use a combination, if possible.

Also depending on the audience, reading level or difficulty with the language may be an issue. Then visual is easier to follow and understand.

PDF. I don't mind videos for tutorials of software etc. But if it's a system/strategy/guide then I prefer PDF. It's far easier to go back and refer to a part of a PDF as opposed to messing around with a video trying to find the bit you need.

For informational guides, I prefer pdf's tutorials. For tutorials, I prefer video if you know how to produce a high quality one. Also, it is a good idea to have a PDF anyway because some people might be in their office checking out your product, and they don't want to be caught watching a video. same with people who have slow Internet connection.

I like both text and videos as long as it's easy to follow and straight to the point. But videos to me should be short and sweet and not like an 1/2 an hour or longer like a tv episode..

      Thanks guys.

I've received some great feedback there.

My general feeling is for basic information I'll be going down the PDF route. But for more instructional info I'll choose the video option.

      Thanks again.
