Advice about IM (newbie life story)

Hello Guys

I am new here.

I started affiliate marketing about 5 years ago and made some money($1000) as a student. I was just driving traffic to it but without knowing what i was essentially doing i was more interested in becoming a Server engineer and it went down hill from their i lost interest in affiliate marketing.

Then tried eBay auctions made few hundred dollars and imported few phone cases from china but this venture crashed to the ground because as student i didn't have much money to invest and family members were being negative about every venture i started . I was doing this in my spare time while studying/working it didn't workout in 2008 so i stopped trying any ideas that i would come with till 2010 .

In 2010 i got a domain catching script developed for a well know extension and caught few domains made $3500 but i had invested $7500 so this was a loss making venture .

The market crash has caused me stay put in my job i have achieved my aim of becoming a server engineer within 3 years of leaving university. Now at this point where i found this forum and i am hit myself for not finding this back in 2007/8/9 when i was doing affiliate marketing but hey ho.

My family are very negative about every venture i suggest and now after mentioning eBay few years ago they believe you can money on ebay. They have started their own store.

The point of this post i am looking for some advice .

I would like to create a technical how to book on a niche it subject . I have done the first 5 chapters on this book and i am writing the how to parts.

Should i sell this or give it away to develop a list and sell the videos and other products ?

I am also looking for 1-1 coaching on adsense niche sites and soe optimising .

    Either give away a shortened version as a free report, or give away some chapters in full.
    Either of those should work as list builders, then you have prospects to sell the full book to who already know your content and style

    Don't let your family get you down.
    Make it happen and prove them wrong.

    I'm new to internet marketing too, so far I have spent $400 and have made nothing..But I am still not giving up.

    If other people can do it, so can we.

      List building is the best way to go for long term business. As Gordino said..you can give a few page report/a chapter from your book as free report to build a list. Then sell the videos and other products at the back end. You can also write a blog about your niche talking about the how to or tips.

    My advice is based on your apparent determination. I'd say stick with your goals, even with all the setbacks. You're obviously motivated, and you're going to hit on something that works. The book idea is a good one, and building a list is even a better plan.

    Give away a blue print kind of thing and mention like 1 of 5 steps , the first one give your best for free in a way that makes your prospects like you to pay for the remaining 4.. And yes don't let others influence , if you really have a purpose (may be freedom , travel ehatever ) do it with full focus and there will be no income weeks initially but with consistent efforts can oversome the same..

      Its been constant knock-outs over the last year or so. Firstly i didn't get the internal server engineer job i applied it went to my colleague who had not even seen a server however the good thing that came from the job interview was they said i impressed and said the right things but i wasn't older enough for the job (they said it in a polite but i knew it was to do with my age) (im 25 !) .

      It hurts when your experience and knowledge is made to be worth nothing.

      Anyway that's in the past i have decide i want to work for myself and not have others denied my life progression.I have seen this through education to people cheat and get better grades than me . I refused to cheat my way through education.

      Reviewing what people have said in this thread so far i need to give away the some sort of an ebook.

      The plan is do the following products

      1.ebook (40-50 page)
      (Chapter 1 introduction to chapter 6 : installing the software will be give free)
      2.Example Project Plans
      3.Checklists
      4.Video Guide (2-3 hours)
      5.Some sort of scripts


      How do i market these ?

      Give a teaser ebook for free then sell the video product and give the rest has bonus products ?

    I think it all depends on you, what do you want to do, if you think your book has a real value to the buyers than other people products than I think you need to sale it..

    See your related products and see whether it will help your subscriber or ebay customer, if other people product does not provide valuable to your list than sale it..

    Or in the other hand you can give it away to build the trust with you and than you email about other people product but not straight away but after few days of time.

    If I would be your place than I would give it for free and go for the numbers of subscriber and bring huge targeted traffic and promote other peoples product..

    I have a family that isn't very supportive of anything I do, either. Don't let what they are saying get to you. Sometimes you just have to ignore them. Do what you think is right for you, and don't let their opinions sway your decisions.

    The money is in the list. It's a well known phrase but it's true.
    Try to build your list by promoting free info product. Do it regular from the scratch.
    Give your respected subscribers true value and threat them like you treat yourself, and success will come.

      I agree with all the other comments you have to get a squeeze page and start to build your list. to get traffic to your list, join as many free safelist sites as you can (if you want to explode your list, go with paid solo ads). Send a solo ad leading to your squeeze page. I am a newbie/intermediate marketer and I have been doing this for about 2 months. I have added 107 subscribers to my list and made $273 so far using dot com secrets. BUILD A LIST.
