Which do you think is better online or offline marketing

Hey guys I am new to the forum, but I was kind of curious. I see you

all are into internet marketing but do any of you ever get into offline

marketing. I say this because a while back when I was trying to

raise some money I would put tiny classified ads into taboid

magazines. They cost about 300.00 dollars so what I found out is

that I could get a voice message account for ten dollars a month

and just direct people to that and tell them to come to my website. I

would get hundreds of responses weekly when I did this and all I

was doing was giving away a free report that I would ask one dollar

for. This was when a stamp cost just 32 cents. I would raise about a

hundred dollars a week and also build up a list really fast. I would

imagine that the money I raised had I have taken it more seriously

back then I could have used to get onto google adwords to make

even more money then I could have just leveraged that until it

grew even bigger. I have found that putting small cheap voice

message numbers in the back of those tabloid magazines was a

goldmine. By using just a good headline with a voice message

number I cut the add from being 300 for one week to being just 50

dollars. But it was a good list building tool as these types of

magazines had about a quarter of a million weekly circulation each.

Just wanted to see what someof you guys might think about this.

Thank you for reading.

I thought not many people read the papers now a days.
A great way to build your list and build relationship.
If they trust you enough to go to your website by phone message
then it will not be difficult for them to buy from you.
    Thanks for sharing.

It's a bit like asking if you prefer grass or chairs.

Offline marketing will generally be better for offline businesses, and online marketing will generally be better for online businesses.

But I'm sure there are exceptions, and only testing will find out.

I thought the same thing. But I found that when I offerend something for free and charged let's say a dollar for shipping, I was still able to get alot of people to come directly to my web site as most of them were not willing to do it the old fashioned way and send it through the mail.

Online marketing is definitely the way to go. While I'm not saying you won't be successful with a more traditional form of marketing, think of how many more potential customers you have, and how much easier it is to hit your target market. Plus, you can control your own success by split testing and making changes without fees- something you can't do once a magazine or newspaper has gone to print.

I can agree with you on that one. But the kind of magazines I am talking about had a weekly circulation of six figures or more. I almost always made at least one hundred dollars profit so I was able to keep reproducing the same add at the same rate and the price of the ad never went up.

I have also noticed that with this cheap method I am able to constantly test my ads to see which ones get the best response because they are weekly. I request e-mail info and from then on I can send them weekly updates to whatever I may have that is in their niche. But I am careful not to overdue it though.

I'd agree with Tina - online should be seen as just one more channel (or set of channels) that you have to market. You can choose to use only online, but the more different ways you contact your customer the more success you'll have.

That's what I was saying. But I have seen that the best punch is a one two punch. When I combine these two methods I am able to see swifter results in terms of building a small list in whatever niche I may want to get into.
