This poll allows multiple answer -I hope! I'd like it if you could choose 1 OR 2 and then 3 OR 4 as well. When you view a website on your smartphone, I'm curious to know how you use it. Do you prefer a site that has a mobile version, or do you prefer to use a standard website with all it's additional features? When using a standard website, do you use the phone in portrait or landscape mode. Would you like to be offered a choice of which version of the site to view? Thanks for your time, guys. |

Full site all day long. My HTC auto fits all text when u zoom in or out, and I dislike using mobile sites anyway. Landscape for videos and horizontal the rest of the time.

Thanks for starting us off Louie - don't forget to vote, please. Interesting comment about portrait/landscape - so just choose option 2 on the poll. Thanks |

I usually prefer the full site as most mobile sites are too basic. I use landscape and portrait to view, not bothered...

I look at sites in both portrait and landscape mode.

I'd prefer to be given the option of choosing between the regular mode and the mobile mode. Sometimes mobile sites don't contain everything that is in the regular site and are often really condensed.

I use landscape mode and prefer the option of being asked whether to view the full or mobile site. As others mentioned, the mobile versions lose a lot of interaction, and unless it's just a feed or something, I prefer the full version. That said, I don't often use my phone to surf the web - only when I'm in a pinch and really need to for a specific reason. |

As a user, I like being sent directly to a mobile version if its built intuitively around why I am likely using my phone to search for your site. I don't really think most users care too much if the site is designed for mobile or landscape. That's a pretty easy and common thing for users to just turn the phone. I also like to see a link to a "view normal site" at the top or bottom of the mobile version. That way its easy for me to get to the full site if for some reason the mobile version doesn't meet my needs. The key is to design a stripped down mobile version that takes into account why someone is viewing a site on a mobile device as opposed to a full cpu of some kind. Thats the key point many mobile site designers miss. |

I like being sent straight to the mobile version and I like to view it in portrait mode.

Options 2 and 4 for me. I'd like the option to choose depending on what I went to the website for, and I always view in portrait mode. Just a matter of personal comfort for that one.

Hi Carol, I'm an old fart, and just use my mobile phone for initiating/receiving calls. I only text to reply to my children (sometimes I just use their text as an excuse to call). Most of us here probably use the web to do work, and whether on a mobile or not, would prefer to see the full site options. (IMHO) If we are not your target market... perhaps the question would be more appropriate in a forum dedicated to your niche. Are you asking the right people? |

option to choose or a direct redirect both work for me providing the end result it actually a good mobile user experience i personally don't consider responsive design to be necessarily a good alternative either - i would rather go with adaptive and mobile optimized, but everyone to their own... seems the majority of Fortune 500 companies look at it that way too many going for actual mobile optimized sites as opposed to responsive design... saying that i would rather look at a responsive design if there is no specific mobile site - there is nothing worse than looking at website that has zero thought put in it for mobile users. i prefer to use my phone portrait... cheers jay |
