Hostgator Has Been Sold. I am Screwed! HELP!

Hello warriors. Yesterday while going through this forum at the IM section , I learnt that hostgator has been sold. A search through google confirmed it as true.

My worry is that I learnt about using hostgator affiliate system to make money on this forum and when I looked at my country(Nigeria), I saw the possibility of making crazy money with this system due to ease, simplicity and little or no competition around my model. I came up with 5 solid methods to make money using hostgator and I had planned to raise $25000-$50000 within one year. I couldn't take action at that time due to school activities.

My worry now is that I have less than a month to graduate from school. In fact my final year exam is on the 9th and now hostgator has been sold.

I am worried because hostgator had a good pay out for affiliates ($50-$125/ sign up). They had good customer service and they accept payment from Nigeria. From what I read yesterday, when the buyer(EIG) bought bluehost, affiliates got screwed.

At this juncture, I will appreciate any suggestion from anyone who has an alternative hosting company that:
1. Accept payment from Nigeria
2. Has good payout system like hostgator-- $50 and above per sign up
3. Has good customer service.

Thank you and God bless

You are screwed because a private company has been bought by another one?

    Give me strength.

That aside EIG who own BlueHost, as you say, pay $65 so EIG don't exactly have it in for Affiliates as you purport.

Hey man. Hostgator pays three 5 set . 1-5 sign up, you get $50, 6-10 sign up, you get $75, 11-15 sign up, you get 100, 21 and above, you get $125. And if you sign up for their affiliate through CJ, you get $100 right off the bat from sign up one.

Where else can one find something like this? My question is will all these properties be retained by the knew owner of hostgator?

Right I see. So it is more the rate you are concerned with rather than the affiliate.

I don't see why they should change but to be honest if it is a worry just e-mail them or chat on their live chat and they will tell you in 5 minutes.

I think Russ means this should be in the Main section.

Okay then. I will appreciate it if it is moved to the main. But I post here because what I wanted to do was to serve offline business.

EIG sucks... but they still pay out.

This really bothers me because I believe EIG to be awful. I have NEVER had a good experience with ANY of their companies.

Hopefully they don't try to turn a working model into some garbage.

    Nobody is getting "screwed".

Hostgator maintains the same team when Brent sold it and in case you don't know, they never got to tweak the affiliate program as they wanted.

That's one of the plans for the new direction and making it even bigger.

Whatever happened to BlueHost has nothing to do with Hostgator even if EIG bought them as well.

You don't just risk a $225 million dollar company with a lousy affiliate plan.

    Doing some research helps sometimes.

PS. If you're planning to raise all that money with Hostgator, you should know that payments take three months to be delivered so if I were you, I would focus in selling packages NOW.

Just my two cents, good luck! ;-)

Okay, I have been speaking with Brent Oxley via email and the guy has been humble enough to answer me. He said he would be around for a few months as an advisor and that he also does not think that is needed since he has built a good management team.

He also said he is not so sure about the affiliate side that there may be improvement or it may just remain the way has always been.

My last question to him was that would there lose of data and I am waiting for his reply.

Since you have not made anything but were only pie in the sky dreaming err planning, you're hardly screwed. Don't know if CJ accepts affiliates from Nigeria (that, really, is your biggest problem), but if so the Hostgator affiliate program through CJ has much better pay than HostGator's in-house program.

I think Apple was pretty big when it risked everything by firing Steve Jobs.

Being a big company doesn't save it from being stupid.

Will this mean that I'll stop getting harrassed to buy their hosting? I sure hope so

This is the wrong part as Rus said. Do take a note where you post your threads. And I dont think anything will happen to the affiliates too, as I am also using them.

      Hello Everyone,

I'm the CEO of Arvixe.com. Having been in the industry since 2003 and seeing our company grow from a one man operation to a 100+ staff members, I've met a lot of individuals in the industry from the CEO of the companies mentioned here to some of EIG's executive staff.

While I don't believe that the level of service being offered by Hostgator is going to be hindered by this deal, I do believe (and as has been seen with Bluehost) that their affiliate system will need to be altered in some ways to match others being offered by EIG.

EIG has always been successful in the affiliate front so this is one area where the merging of the operations makes sense (as oppose to previous mergers of support/services which lost the brands involved a lot of customers).

Hopefully whoever takes over their affiliate plan will teach their affiliates to start posting in the right sections of websites and to disclaim their affiliation.

There is nothing to worry about, unless if you prefer the old affiliate platform than the new one.

All web hosts that pay good commissions to affiliates, will double, triple and even quadruple your payout rate if you bring in a certain number of sales per month. So, it is not something exclusive to HostGator.

UPDATE: I take my words back. I believe there is actually something to worry about (as affiliates) with regards to the movements and plans of EIG.
