How do you find a really good mentor?

I've been looking all morning for a mentor to take my business to the next level. I have been making inconsistent money for a while now and want to employ the help of someone to take me to a more passive, consistent online income. I am happy to pay for a good mentor but have no idea where to look. I am looking for someone who is happy to give 1on1 training, has an existing business based around a stream of passive income, preferably in affiliate marketing. I have a good foundation of basic knowledge, sales and have a good ideas about the direction I want to take the business. Any suggestions are appreciated and of course feel free to ask questions if you need more info, cheers.

That thread can help, but only if the OP can find one of the mentioned names who is doing what he is doing. OP, there are plenty here who are offering mentoring or 1 on 1 coaching within their signatures. It'll take some digging, but all you need to do is find out where the people doing what you are dong hang out, and locate one of the signatures.

As to whether or not that person is qualified? You'll just have to read their posts and see what's what.

Check out Ryan Lee, Rich Schefren, Brendon Burchard, Frank Kern and Alex Jeffries, read their blogs, subscribe to their feeds and see which one seems to fit what you want, they are all pretty unique, there are loads of others too but if you check out these then you will soon find other tops names they associate with.

I wanted the same thing last year. I wanted someone successful, someone who actually had the site, and made the money. I finally got John Chow on the horn, and he helped out a lot! If you're wanting mentorship, go for the best! Darren Rowse problogger.net, JohnChow.com, stevenaitchinson.co.uk...you will be surprised at how many of these will help you...including the list above probably, and not charge you anything for it.

My conversation with John Chow was not a daily thing, he only talked to me once, but in that 45 minutes he showed me a whole lot...How I Got One Of The Internet's Most Successful Bloggers To Talk To Me

Great list of names so far, thanks for the input. Looks like I am just going to have to keep researching till I find a comfortable fit with my biz... I found this affiliate 1on1 coaching course by Justin Dupree, anyone had any experience with this before?

Hi eSubmarine, sorry I missed what it is you do?? If you are looking for a mentor you need to find someone who does what you do or want to do and does it successfully. If you are looking for a mentor to make money no matter how it is not really a goal is it? Find something you love to do and do it. Then find a mentor that does it better.

    Just my thoughts.

Sorry maybe I was not clear enough in my original post...I generally work as an now affiliate, but have also had some results with selling services to offline business. These earnings are pretty inconsistent and I need help to get them to be more passive/ consistent.

As I said in my original post I am looking for a mentor who has preferably got a foundation of experience in aff marketing (this is what I am focusing most of the time at the moment). But to be honest as long as the coach can provide me with a solid method that can be scaled, outsourced or made passive in the future, I would consider it. Regardless of niche or stratergy For me, it's never been a case of finding something I love to do. I loathe that ideology, because I think limits you massively... It might work for some but just not me.

For me its about building a firm foundation for my business, that is open to scale, in an evergreen market and doesn't focus around myself but building brand instead. If you can mentor me in that sense I am all ears. I've been aware of IM for about 5 years now and making money on and off for the last 3. I hate to use this word but it has just been a hobby in my mind for that period. Now I am personally ready for a business.....not just a hobby.... Yes I need that extra bit of direction and the confidence boost is a huge part of having a mentor for me as well.

    Hi eSubmarine,

Do you really need a mentor? It's not that it should be better believe in yourself?

    I'm just asking.

What you are asking for is pretty risky. There's about a 98% chance you'll end up with a mentor that thinks highly of himself, but actually has many lifetime newbie traits. Even the term mentor is grouped in with guru. It isn't a good thing to be. Just way too many people who are all talk.

A safer bet is to post very specific questions here on the forum. Do not ask in generalizations or the dumbasses will come out of the woodwork with their "Focus with laser like precision!" replies.

Everything you need to know is free for the taking if you ask the right questions.

Yeah tell me about it.... I know it is risky. I think though I am clear enough in what I want to progress towards it will be easy for me to eliminate potential time/money wasters. Your right again, its just information if you ask the right people you'll find what you want. In my case I have got to the point I feel lost in direction, I can see all the stages in my head I just can't get there on a day to day basis and I think having a mentor would help me plan that.

So if anyone else has any good mentors that they have had experience of please let me know.

Whoever offers to help for less than that is probably not worth it .
I will do it for $999 an hour!

      Kidding - Here's the thing:

It sounds like you already know what you need to do.

You say you have a good basic knowledge of IM, sales and the direction that you need to go.

What specifically do you need help with?

If you need general help there is more than enough info on this forum.

Also in my experience after about 7 years working online there is NO magic bullet.

I have not met one person with a system or program or even a way of thinking that did not require work and effort.

I would pick up some self help books first - Check out Tony Robbins and books like The 4 Hour Work Week.

In a way by reading them you have the best mentors in the world for a few $$$'s!

      Hope this helps?

Don't be afraid to ask questions - but take action and save your money - at least for now.

You are right to a degree but the best know they have to give more as the market is becoming more competitive, so you can still find really good quality info for not a lot of money, plus just connecting with people on social media, offering your skills and building a relationship can get you along way without having to spend a ton of money.

I would also say just research, do your homework and keep implementing different strategies. What works for one personmay not work for youor the opportunity that you have per say. Even with a successful guru, mentor or whatever is still comes down to you and your K.A.S.H. (Knowledge, Attitude, Skill, and Work Ethic) number 2 is 1 and number four is 2 remember that moving forward.
    Ciao,
    Peace and Infinite Blessings!!!

I'm not sure what or who is best for you, but in my early days...and to this very day I have lots of mentors...they often just dont know it!

What I mean is I watch, follow and learn from what lots of folk are doing. I see the products they launch, I read their blogs, I read BETWEEN the lines on their posts, I watch the webinars and pick up on their methods.....you get the idea.

You can learn loads by being a little ninja, using your common sense and thinking your way through and around lots of successful marketers methods, tips and strategies.

I am involved in a program, which I am not going to mention here because I don't want to SPAM the forum, where there is a 30 days to success guide that you can follow from a guy who is making a killing online. I can proudly say that his 30 days guide is great and can show you how to take your income to a new level.

You can PM me and I would love to send you the link to his website. I am doing well with it too so I can proudly recommend it.

It definitely depends on what you want to be mentored in. The Warrior forum can definitely point you in the right direction. A question to answer is " Who do I see that I would want to BE like: in character, reputation etc." You can always find people who are making money but unfortunately may not be the type of PEOPLE that you would like to be.

I know an EXCELLENT mentor that teaches you how to expand your BUSINESS and build a real business and not just a bunch of methods. It's true one on one through skype and emails almost everyday, and the responses are long and detailed. He's extremely professional. PM me if you'd like to know who he is (I get nothing for referring you and it's not me lol) He's my mentor to this day and it lasts at least 90 days.

I recently paid $400 for a coach.. There are a number of other coaches out there ranging from $47 - $500+

I went with Kenster but other people like Tristan Bull also have a great name.

After studying the problem, I found only one person who has a real "vision" about information business and he is Rich Schefren. All the others have experience, practice, but not a real vision of the business. (Do not worry I have no link with him or his company neither I'm an affiliate). I have been looking for the fundamentals, the philosophy and only him seems tob be in that way.

Depends of what you want to do.

Just online? Just affiliates? Just fliping sites? Just offline? Just high ticket customers? Just newbies? etc etc etc.

After you decide THAT, you can follow some people in the industry and get really good information from them, both paid, and for free.

But don't go expecting a perfect partner just because you're paying someone to teach you something that might not be adjusted to your needs/dreams/ability/depth of wallet.

    Just sayin'.

It's ironic that one of the most often given pieces of advice on here is "find a mentor" but when OP goes asking about how to find one a bunch of people make it sound like a ridiculous request.

You definitely need to figure out what exactly you want mentoring on and find one that has had success in that area. If you can't PM yet, you may need to wait, but contacting high-value contributing Warriors that post about revenue streams you're interested in may be a good place to start. I'm not necessarily talking about guys with big post counts, but those that contribute real top notch advice. They may be willing to take you on as a mentee even if they don't usually do things like that. If not, they could probably direct you to someone that does mentor marketers in the areas you're interested in.

I have had several mentors since 1998 and I would have to say that in order to decide which mentor/coach to go with you need to consider several factors:

    1. Are they successful doing what you want to do or in your case taking others to the next level?

    2. Do they have a good reputation for helping others, not just when they are being paid but do they genuinely care about others achieving goals or accomplishing a task?

    3. Do others recommend him/her as a mentor? What quality are the testimonials? Do they seem sincere and are they achieving the level of success you are seeking?

    4. Does the mentor have a guarantee or promise that they can put in the time and effort to help you succeed?

    5. What do others think of the reputation of the mentor?

    6. Can you afford the fees?

    7. Do you have the time to devote to the training?

Make sure you ask the mentor how they work before hiring them and ask for at least a brief outline of the direction they'd send you in. See if it's how you like to work.
