The tribesman in me sees an opportunity to answer this question with a question...

Would you rather watch cars pass you by or have the ability to call them with directions anytime you want?

I have tested both and can tell you that they work almost the same.

If you want to collect emails what you can do also is to have some sort of a pop under for that product to be seen if your visitors don't want to subscribe to your list. This works well and it can be a great strategy.

There is a software that does this. It is called Exit Splash.

Here is the link to that site. It is not an affiliate link:

As soon as your visitor clicks on the X to exit your opt in page, they are taken to your sales page where they can read more about your product.

        Hi QWE,

Sending a visitor directly to an offer, overall, will typically produce something between 5% and 10% (maybe less!) of the income that list-building from the same traffic can produce, for a whole variety of different reasons.

Very few people buy at their first visit to a site/sales page, and you need to prompt them to return, to get the majority of the sales. Difficult to do that, without opting them in.

You also make far more sales by email communications, because you have the chance to build relationships and establish credibility. What typically sells affiliate products is the strength of your recommendation. Again, very difficult to have much of one at all, without a list.

You can also have a sales funnel, with a list, and make repeated sales to the same customers over and over again.

If you take a look through all the threads here with titles like "What Do You Wish You'd Done Differently At The Start?" and "How Would You Re-start Tomorrow?" and "What Do You Know Now That You Wish You'd Known Originally?" and so on. There are about 100 of them! All the Warriors who are making a living as affiliate marketers are wisely giving the same answer: "Start building lists on day 1". There are reasons for that.

There's just no comparison at all, really.

This post explains more (its principles don't apply only to ClickBank sales, in spite of the title): http://www.warriorforum.com/main-int...ml#post5210243

I recommend that you stay well away from exit pop-ups, myself, unless you test them very thoroughly (which is actually more difficult than it sounds - many people make the mistake of assuming that opting in some extra people with them proves that they're "working". The reality is that it proves no such thing. What they commonly do is prevent people who've seen them, many of whom might otherwise have returned to your site and opted in later, from going back to your site - you lose some "returning traffic", in other words, and it's really common for them to lose you more than they gain you, overall - as many who've split-tested them correctly will confirm.) E. Brian Rose and Alexa are giving us great advice. It's why I search the forum all the time for their posts and read them thoroughly.
Don't miss one opportunity to add a subscriber to your list. And once someone subscribes, treat them very well indeed.
By all means build a list, starting from day one.

That's interesting. I've done both and would never go back to direct linking to an offer.

With direct-to-offer selling, you get one shot, and very, very few sales pages are strong enough to make it economically viable, particularly if you are buying the traffic. Alexa mentions 5-10% conversions, that's actually GOOD, better than almost all pages.

1 or 1 &1/2 or 2% is much more common. ...and if the offer, for what ever reason, converts for awhile and then goes cold, you still have the traffic to direct to a better performing offer (I do this all the time).

Without a list, this is like throwing darts in a dark room, wearing a blindfold.

No offense but if you are getting the same results from both then you are doing something wrong.

I think that you need to decide if you what them to build your list and let them get to see what you are offering them. Or are you just trying to get them to buy something. If they see you have something they want from you they will buy. But if you are just trying to get them to buy from your page you will lose them. Sometime it a hard to get them to your list and even harder to sell them a product that they don't know.

Honestly - I have had luck with both and failed with both. It really depends on the offers and the quality of your newsletter.

You should collect the email. You got to gain trust and this is done by communicating with your leads. A buyer would usually buy after exposed 6-8 times to the message.

    Good Luck!
