Auto Responders: Templates or Plain Text

Hey Everyone,

I'm new to the warrior forum, as I was recommended by a friend to learn as much as I can here and build relationships with the people here.

I'm starting an auto responder sequence and I was wondering which is best to use in the health/fitness industry, templates or plain text emails. I'm on a few IM lists and they all use plain text, and some of the lists I'm on in the health industry, some use the built in templates.

So I'd like to know for the industry I'm going for, which is the best?

Thanks in advance,

Matt

I have good results using a plain white/black html template.
limit images. You don't need a fancy logo, text will do fine. Images should be of the product you are promoting. 1 image.

Ah, so you're suggesting an html template that looks like plain text so you can add images, and probably links too?

I have always used plain text and have great response.
If you know how to write killer emails you will have
no problems getting the response you desire.

    There is no best.

Personally I use html with plain text back-up but there is no right/wrong answer.

Plain text became standard in the olden days because a sender had no way of knowing if the recipient had the ability to read html emails. These days almost every email client supports html emails so the issue of plain text vs html is more of a personal/niche preference.

However I think you can answer your own question better than any of us can.

...which is best to use in the health/fitness industry, templates or plain text emails. I'm on a few IM lists and they all use plain text, and some of the lists I'm on in the health industry, some use the built in templates.
Do you prefer getting the html emails or the plain text? Your readers in the same niche may feel the same way. Try both and measure your response.

I personally like to use the templates simply because they add more flavor and style to your emails...you could find a template in the health/fitness category and just use that consistently in all your emails.

Think about it...would you rather read a dab, dry looking plain white background email with black text or a colorful, eye-catching email that grabs your attention.

At the end of the day though, its really more about the content you're providing and what you're sending out to your list so don't let this become an obstruction to the most important thing - TAKING ACTION!!!

    Best Regards

Or was it "swimming", it's been awhile since I watched Finding Nemo.

Seriously, there is no black and white answer, as others have already told you. Figure out what your specific customers respond best to and stick with it.

    Good question.

I'm on dozens of lists to study other marketers (recommended) and the vast majority of them use very basic html with not much bold or italic and anchor text for links.

However, I have noticed a change recently whereby a few people seem to be moving over to the html templates.

Personally I think this creates a much more professional impression, but you should consider that images can often get blocked and spam filters can block the message altogether.
