Having a white board helps?!?!

I have heard and read a lot of people recommending a white board ( dry erase board ) to use so you can write down your tasks, keep track of progress and just be more precise with your action taking.

So I had to get one. I found a great deal on craigslist, picked up a 3ft x 4ft white board from some guy relocating his business out of state he was selling all sorts of stuff dirt cheap. I paid $15 for it and they are $100 or more new!

So I plan to start using it regularly to set deadlines and write a game plan. I think it will work and help me to stay on track and be more organized. Got some dry erase markers for $4.

So white board... Check

I have so many books and notepad floating all over my house. I have even lost some of them so I think the white board is a great idea..

My IM coach actually recommended it too.

Just gotta find a cheap one somewhere.

I have about 6 whiteboards... I use them to map out everything im doing in my funnels, and tasks aswell as have a to do list aswell.

White boards certainly make a difference in seeing what your doing visually... plus its in front of you so you know what needs to get done.

mindmaps are cool and I use that for certain things.

I would rather have the white board since I can write quick notes, to do lists, and calender to mark off days with dues dates and such. it will just be easier and fast for me.

I love having my white board on the wall of my office. I can see in a second what projects are due without signing onto my computer. It's just a personal preference. I use software for many other things, of course, but for a quick look at this weeks projects I prefer the old-fashioned white board.

I love my white boards! I have a couple of large ones and a few small ones in my office.

I also use other organizational tools but white boards are at the top of my list.

Nothing beats having a task staring at you from the wall to ensure it gets done!

Oh...and the satisfaction from getting to wipe the task off when it's completed....it's better than............. (fill in the blank yourself).

I love my whiteboard. It's only A4 size and it's perfect for my work to-do list. It's immediately visible, and because of its size it keeps my list at a manageable size. when it gets full up, I can either do a couple of the jobs I've been avoiding or I can re-prioritise and remove something that clearly wasn't that important in the first place.

Will definitely be buying a whiteboard for my new office

Other than that, I just use MS Office's calender at the moment... which isn't the best - the bright red warnings may serve as a good reminder, but they aren't so good on the eyes :p

Whiteboards work wonders for me. For me, computerized resources don't really work as well. I guess there's something significant with physically writing down lists, or large plans that's makes it that much more solid. I need a bigger one now, mine is only about 1.5 x 2. Only $6 at walmart though

it's a good idea and it genuinely works

I was always a kind of "dive straight in" kind of guy but IM is so dense and multi-layered that some kind of planning is essential - the big visuals of a whiteboard would certainly be effective reminders to get stuff done

They are a must. I jot idea's to expand on and small tasks that need to be completed. I also plan and summarise projects into steps that are rubbed off or added throughout the process. I also have an iPad for research and comfortable reading. Can spend a day consuming info so sometimes lye back in my conservatory on the evenings reading to finish up the day. Ideal environment for me

I use a white board all the time to remind me of what projects I am working on. The ones that are the most important get different colored stars by them. I personally work better if my tasks are staring me right in my face. I absolutely agree that it is a great feeling to wipe off the tasks.

I actually have dyslexia that affects my memory. I can literally forget the start of a sentence before the end of it sometimes. I actually have dyslexia that affects... just kidding. But I do and honestly, if it wasn't for my whiteboard, I literally wouldn't have a clue what I should be working on next.

Seems like I remember something about taking a picture (like with your cell phone) of the whiteboard and emailing it to your Evernote address.

Evernote can scan pics and make the content searchable.

      Pretty cool.

I too use a whiteboard pretty religiously, and as Joe said above, importing into Evernote makes it totally portable. My problem though is my board is way too small at 18" x 24". I seriously need to upgrade.

I love using the white board. Is more accessible than using note/wordpad on the computer. Whenever an idea comes up or have some tasks that needed to be done, I would just write them down on the white board. It is also the first thing I see when I go into my office. I don't like the idea of having to open up notepad or my computer (unless is already on) just to jot things down, just really inconvenient especially if I have to reopen the program just to see or add more things to the list.

Plus most office meetings uses white boards to brainstorm ideas or projects..

    I also use a whiteboard...

...got it right here besides me with 2 dry-wipe markers ready for action. One red. One black.

    I use a 2 column system...

    Column A // Column B

Column A is my high priority list (in red).

Column B is my secondary priority list (in black).

As Column A high priority tasks are completed they are erased from the board. And Column B tasks take their place in order of importance to complete.

3 x a day the entire list is reorganized. Morning, lunchtime and evening.

I use it in conjunction with this free tool...

    http://www.WorkFlowy.com

It's an indispensable system to help me to keep on top of everything.

Perhaps useful to someone else here?

    Warmest regards,

There are so, SO many options available online for mind-mapping, taking notes, etc...and I've still found that a plain, old-fashioned whiteboard works wonders for me.

I'm not exactly sure why...I think it has something to do with the actual process of writing it out that's helpful for me. Maybe it has something to do with muscle memory? It makes brainstorming by myself or with others SO much more enjoyable and productive, though.

I just moved into a new house and I'm having a huge whiteboard installed in my home office as I write this, hehe.
