Bulk Emal Sending With Hostgator

So..... I got the normal baby plan. Create the site, set up the emails....

And started sending out to my list (without using any autoresponder)

Next thing I knew, Hostgator sent me a mail. Regarding their spam issues.

And it mentions if I want to do Bulk email sending, I should upgrade to either their VPS or Business Plans.

And So...... I did... Upgraded to the VPS hosting.

And the next special moment.... After sending another batch of emails....
Hostgator sent another email to me, "TOS/SPAM"

Now I'm like.. .WTF........

My Question is,
Without using any autoresponders.
anyone have any idea of a good hosting that provides a good Bulk mail sending?

Estimated 10,000 in the list.... Or with that number I should just go ahead with autoresponders?

So basically your just sending thousands of emails to your list, without an autoresponder, and your not understanding why your host is sending you a TOS violation email?

Better yet, this is a great way to get the email your sending said messages from relegated to the SPAM folder of your users.

Get an autoresponder and be done with it.

I would recommend looking into providers that actually do mass emailing rather than going through your own.

You may simply be sending too many messages, too fast. As I recall, HG has a limit of 2,000 emails per hour (check their FAQ to confirm the number). More than that, and it bogs down their servers and degrades performance for others sharing the server.

When I first moved to HG (reseller plan), I had to tweak my emailer to throttle it down.

I have run into this as well with HG. I was only sending about 100 email per day, and got an email from them with regards to spam concerns. It turned out that the spam alarms went off because I was sending them all at once.

HG recommends throttling your emails down to at least 1 email per 8 seconds; otherwise their software starts to raise the red flag. Not only that, but after the first few, the software automatically stops and never sends the rest of the emails.

An alternative to this is Amazon SES. I have been using the service with no issues, and it's pretty cheap; around $0.10 per thousand. To start, they allow up to 10,000 emails per day and up to 5 emails per second. Every so often, you can ask for a limit increase.

I was just going to mention Amazon SES too. I'm not sure you ca set up an autoresponder series with it though. Nick Jolin released a WSO few weeks ago on how to use it.

          Here it is : http://www.warriorforum.com/warrior-...style-now.html

I haven't buy it, but I think ths is the only one on the subject.

Any mailing list larger than 5,000 addresses will require a dedicated server or VPS hosting solution from us. <--- this sentence confused me.... which made me got the VPS hosting

Most all providers will of course have strict policies. Regardless, you have to be CANSPAM compliant. SPF/DKIM helps as well in delivering mail.. Read up on the rules and tweak it from there.

If you have 2,000 subscribers you MUST afford an autoreponder as aweber or getresponse, if you can't then there's something wrong in your marketing efforts.

Sorry to tell you this but you do need an autoresponder service for what you are trying to do.

Otherwise, you will have to slow (way) down the number of emails you are sending out.

The main issue isn't about affordable...
Just that I don't frequent send out to the list, maybe once every 2 months.

And I don't wanna waste that extra $ on an autoresponder that's on standby mode.

Might consider the Amazon SES, since it's a pay by usage basis...

You have to throttle the email bro. I used to do it on my own using phplist and it worked well for a while. It's risky though, VERY risky and can really mess things up for you and cause big headaches. I'd recommend going with a company that specializes in it!

If you're dead set on using a hosted autoresponder, with that size list, you need a really, really good autoresponder script.

The biggest feature you need is something called 'throttling' which restricts the number of emails you send out per hour.

This is so you don't send out too many emails at one time, which is what is flagging you for 'spamming'.

The trick to this is to know upfront how many emails per hour you are permitted to send out (this is a question you must ask the hosting company...every hosting company I've dealth with has these limits and they do vary), and to set that to half or less of your allowance in the autoresponder script.

Now when you do your broadcasts, you're not choking the life out of the email server, so nobody should bother you about it.

That being said, I would much rather you go with an autoresponder service as this is one of only many headaches you will have to put up with....whichever way you choose, I do wish you good luck.

What has been your experience in using Groupmail desktop software for bulk emails? I move between them and Aweber.

I believe with hostgator the max that you can send out per hour is about 500, sounds like you need to upgrade to an email marketing service like aweber or constant contact.

Most companies are even lower. 250/hour. Sending that many emails will definitely cause problems.

I'd suggest using an outside mail service
