What Are Your Business Goals?

What are your business goals?

Suffering the effects of procrastination or lack of belief in yourself?

Fact: Less than 5% of people set goals for themselves.

What is your business goal and how do you intend to hit your target?

What time frame will you allow for hitting your business goal?

Without clearly defined goals in sight, how do you know the direction you're heading in? Like a boat on a fast moving river if you haven't got a rudder sooner or later you're going to hit an obstacle.

With a rudder at least you have a good chance of steering your vessel (your life) in the direction which is best for your personal interests.

Remember! You are the master or mistress of your own destiny. You can be, you can have, you can do more (or less) of whatever you want to do IF you have clearly defined goals, provided you are prepared to...

1. Set it as a goal.

2. Focus in like a laser on achieving your goal no matter what hurdles are in front of you on a daily basis.

3. Resolve to pay the necessary price in advance.

The end of the month is just under 4 weeks away.

The end of the year just 6 months away.

This time next year is just one year in the future.

Your future, your destiny...

Where do you want to be at the end of the month?

Where do you want to be at the end of the year?

Where do you want to be one year from now?

Contract yourself to the following statement (commit this to yourself)...

Simply copy and paste this and reply below...

In 4 weeks / 6 months / 1 year (cross out as applicable) I want to (set your goal here)...

For example...

"In 4 weeks time, I want to have a clearly defined plan in place so I can organize clearly my business strategy and tactics to achieve my goal of reaching $5,000 per month within 6 months."

Also do feel welcome to discuss this topic, anything which has helped you personally to set firm business goals.

Please be my guest... what advice have you got to share which ultimately will benefit others?

Warmest regards,

Mark Andrews

SMART goal setting is a good formula to work too, A previous employer of mine sent me to a management seminar on the SMART goal setting technique, it was the most useful seminar Ive ever attended and has served me well ever since

    S - Specific
    M - Measurable
    A - Achievable
    R - Realistic
    T - Tangible

Im not going to go into detail here since Ive found out over time this is quite a well known goal setting system and I'm sure you'll find plenty of content about it on the net

I would say that some of my business goals, is to continue to blog every day, build more traffic back to my blog, and become an authority blog. As for financially I want to be able to reach $5,000 a month from my blog.

For me i like to keep thing simple, and don't try to over complicate my goals to much. As simple has always worked for me.

Thanks for the ideas. Selecting the goal is the main thing. If you fail to select the goal and just hang around then you will never be successful. So you have to select the goal then start working. Every newbie should read this post.

Posts like this really put things in perspective. It made me realise that although I have plans, they aren't structured, they're just things floating around in my head... and until I put them down, they'll never seem, real.
    • By the end of July, I'll have a product and website launched and be ready to sell to offline businesses.
    • At the start of August I'll begin marketing the webpage/product by:
      • Emailing the businesses in the industry I'm targeting (25-50 emails a day throughout August)
      • Cold call the ones that don't have a website/email
      • Write and distribute a press release
      • LinkedIn & various other methods to drum up some potential clients & spread the word
      • Visting local businesses and talking to them in person
    • I aim to get 10 clients by month 1 and steadily build upon this monthly until I hit 100 (or until I've contacted every possible business in the industry)
    • When I have at least £200/month coming in, I will outsource monthly costs (£50)
    • Eventually want this business to turnover £18k/year
That's my plan, all whilst holding down a full-time job. Probably doesn't seem much to people on here... But to double my salary at 22 would be incredible.

      Hello James

This equally applies to others here reading this thread...

It's important to have a vision.

Why do you need a vision?

Having a vision will help you to visualize your ideal outcome. You can then pin your hopes and dreams on this vision, on this outcome which will help you to make your goal seem more tangible. More real.

For example, regularly I find myself looking at properties for sale in Europe. Now call me a daft romantic old sod but ever since I was a nipper I've wanted my own smallholding.

Somewhere I can grow my own fruit and veg and keep a few animals. A rustic old building set in the foothills of the mountains (I'm thinking of the Pyrenees in France or Tuscany in Italy here), a little 4 acre meadow of near flat pasture land surrounded on two sides by woodland.

The dream being to have somewhere I can invite friends over or anyone looking to write in absolute peace and quiet amidst beautiful inspiring scenery. In our spare time by choice listening to good music, fishing, or just relaxing and sharing good stories over a camp fire over a glass of wine. Very nice.

Now every time I come across what looks to be the ideal property, it helps to bring everything into perspective. It keeps the dream alive. It helps me to see in my mind's eye an actual outcome, a way to reward myself for all the work put in along the way.

Goal setting is very important. When you're in business mentally your head space can feel extraordinarily busy. All these things which at the outset seemed possible, sooner or later you will start to feel the stress of it all as you try and bring your big plan together. Life is like that. What appears simple on the surface often becomes confused as all of these other things come into your life to rob you of your dream.

Whenever this happens you need to keep your goal in mind. Whatever it may be.

This will spur you on and give you the motivation you need to take the next step.

      Talking of steps...

Remember... Rome wasn't built in a day.

      It was built one brick...

...one step at a time. And each little step taken towards the end goal to create this fine city brought the city planners closer to their ultimate dream.

If you take strides which are two big for you too early on, chances are your goal,, your plan will come crashing down.

On the other hand, if you set small goals each day which make up a much bigger overall picture chances are... you will achieve your vision.

Major change will not happen overnight. You'll need to work at this to bring your big dream to life. And you do this by setting for yourself, a firm business goal.

Even if you take just very small achievable steps each day, change something every day by a factor of just 1%...

...why in 100 days you'll see a 100% improvement in something. Whatever it may be.

      So ask yourself every day...

What can I do today to bring me closer to my ultimate goal?

What can I do today to improve the lives of other people by a factor of just 1%?

What can I do today which I didn't do yesterday to bring me closer to my dream?

Along the way, every time you reach one of these tiny goals - remember how important it is to reward yourself.

Congratulate yourself on a job well done.

Give yourself a pat on the back.

This will empower your sense of self esteem as you try to change your life around for the better.

Change for many can be an unsettling experience, hence why those people who take small, achievable, incremental steps daily are far more likely to reach their goal than those people who hit the ground running with their little legs racing out of control.

It's about taking surefooted, small, firm steps daily to increase the likelihood your foundation is built on something rock solid which will cement your business goals firmly to mind.

Building your big dream on a rock solid foundation, setting clearly defined goals as part of your vision and plan will stand the test of time and bring you through smiling when everything doesn't go according to plan.

Just be reflexive and bend with the wind.

You're a sapling about to grow into an almighty tree. May you reach for the stars!

And bloody good luck to you too.

I hope this extra information helps you out James and others too.

      Now get at it!

      Warmest regards,

It's really motivational to trawl through this thread; I hope others benefit from it as much as I have.

Planning and laying out simple things make a big difference, much more than I anticipated.

Having a series of small steps seems far less daunting than 1 giant step which acts as a barrier to taking action.

        Back to work for now...

        - James

My current goals involve list building and helping others in the community as I find this a good stress reliever.

I did have quite a successful blog and my main goals were to do with the ranking in Google but I found that I get more consistent traffic through the list building to my articles then I do through Google as the beast called Google can be a little fickle at times.

But I do agree without goals had do you know whether what you're doing is successful or not.

  • I just finished putting on excel all my expenses (fixed and variable), my income, and how much do I need in order to live comfortably. Bumping into this thread makes me realize what I did was a stepping stone and now setting one specific goal will be my next step.

As for me, my business goal would be to earn $4,000 a month. One thing I have learned and just realized after 5+ years working online is to work SMART. I have been working my butt off for the past years 12-15 hours a day when I should have been using 8-hours a day out of my 24 hours to be more productive without having to squeeze my brain out and sweat everything off from my system.

Business goal = $4,000/month through working SMART.

My goal is to profit $6,000 - $6,500 per day - every day of the year, and have a system setup that basically runs itself with minimal maintenance. Thats why I want to work hard now so I can relax later. All I have right now is TheOpSec.com (blog) but I am currently working on a video sharing site as well. My goals are high, but they have to be. I don't want my wife to have to work, and I want to take her all over the world no expense spared. Im only 27 years old now. I can do this, and will.
