Default Some Internet Marketers Have No Class...

With the news of Barry Richardson passing away
How can some people be still (slyly) promote products in their emails
but still talk about Barry Richardson ?

I think I need to get off his list, all he does is send promos all day.
I would reveal him but that would even be less classier.

Mmm, I usubscribed when I got a "sad news, good news"
email today. It sickens me to see people monetising an
email about such a sad loss.

It shows a complete lack of sensitivity and empathy.

That's why I, and others, always remove our forum sigs from such posts.

There's a time and place for selling, and this isn't it.

Will be looking through my emails to see if I got it, too.

All the best,
Michael

Fortunately I am not on anyones list that is promoting products yet letting me know about Barry's passing.

I am saddened by it even though I didn't have the honor of knowing him. But if someone were to promote in the same email to me, they would definitely get an ear full before I permanently unsubed from their list.

Internet Marketers are just people, and with their focus tightly on money some people have tunnel vision and lose perspective.

Fortunately not many people go this far and when it comes to someone passing away most people realise that there are some lines you don't cross.

Tell me about it. There is some guy who went to a specific DP sub-forum asking for people to use his affiliate link to help Barry's family.

Firstly, Barry is not even known by anyone in that specific sub-forum, so a little strange asking for donations or help from total strangers. And second he was asking to use his affiliate link.

Needless to say, the thread was closed.

Now that's something I'd not want to be in my emails. I haven't got one titled something like that; or anything inside the email that talks about Barry.

There are some limits, and we shouldn't cross them just for the sake of money.

I don't know how many emails are using Barry in it. I got one and I think it was a mistake but nothing intentional. Certainly not done to try to make money off of Barry.

The person is not a native English speaker.

The person had a list of things so it wasn't just a promotion with Barry being a part of the email.

My wife is not a native English speaker. She speaks very good, like the person I was talking about, but that doesn't mean sometimes the spirit of how it was intended is lost.

Default Re: Some Internet Marketers Have No Class...

Ok. Someone is talking about me...

First, I'm not a native English speaker. But I think that should not stop me
from trying to build a relationship with people, and market my products on
the English-speaking market. At least I try. I make mistakes in the language,
in the approach, etc., but I try.

That's very hard and time consuming for me to write in this language. It's
almost impossible for me to express my exact feelings and explain things as
I do in French (my first language).

Please try to understand the exact meaning of that and its implication
on what you perceive about me.

There's a huge gap between what *some* people might perceive from me
and the reality.

Second, I'm not the marketer the OP is talking about. I don't send
promotional emails daily. In 1 year 1/2, I sent only 3 messages to my
subscribers. See the explanation below.

Third, when you don't know people but unsubscribe presto from their email
list because you didn't like one thing they said, then say in public they
lack sensitivity and empathy, what do you do yourself John?

Some people may see this as a lack of sensitivity and empathy too!

Do you know these people? Do you know their life? Are you sure
they tried to take advantage of the situation?

Fourth, I'm the person that sent the message John is talking about in his post
(the "sad news, good news" message - not exactly that in fact).

- This message was NEVER intended to make money off of Barry's death. I was
trully affected by his death, and one of the first to post in Jim Miller's thread.

- As Thomas said, the "sad news" part was only a part of the message I sent.
The goal was only to inform people of this very sad news.

- I directed my readers to Jim Miller's post in the Warrior Forum.

- There were no correlation with the other parts of my email.

Fifth. I had posted a reply here few hours ago, but was advised by someone
by PM to delete my message. That's what I did. Just the time to think more
about it.

I'd lose my soul if I don't post any explanation here, even if the
same person said to me by PM that "there's no value" in the post (the
post that I deleted).

That's why I post again now.

I like to think Warriors, and people in general, can understand what others do
and why they do it, can be empathetic, can understand other people's mistakes,
etc. I think it's a mark of respect.

Sixth. I'm ill since 12 years. For this reason, my life is damn HARD.

- A part of the reason that explain why I'm ill is my over-sensitivity to things
and empathy with people. Believe it or not.

- When I succeed to create a product and put it on the market - and it doesn't
happen often, believe me! -, that's something HUGE for me.

That's me coming to life again, after so long being "dead".

This explains the "good news" part of that email. But I forgot to say why it
was a good news...

I finished my product and put it on the market the same day Barry passed
away. "No luck". I didn't take the opportunity to post that promo email.

Seventh. I know John is a reputed marketer and Warrior, and I'm kinda "against
him" here (but in fact I'm not fighting with him - I just try to explain what is
in my mind).
I know that some people might not understand what I mean to say here,
because the language is a barrier, again.
etc.

The value in my post?

The value is human.

People can see me exactly how I am. I'm honest. I never lie. And
I like when things are clear.

I have no fear to admit my mistakes in public.

It was not a good idea to mix both parts, but the intended goal was not to
make money off of people.

I also know that when I post here many people who weren't aware of that
email know now! And this might destroy my "reputation". I might lose my
Warrior Forum account. I might lose customers and "friends".

But sorry, I won't sell my soul to the Devil. I want people see my real face.

I explain things as they are. I think many people will appreciate my honesty
here.

Best to all.

Didier,

Your reputation is still good in my book.

Like I said, I hadn't seen the e-mail so I can't speak for it context.

However, you get points for admitting it was you, and what your real intentions were/are.

You are professional and friendly, and I believe that something was lost in the translation.

I hope everything gets cleared up and that things improve for you.

All the best,
Michael Oksa

p.s. For the record, your English is still much better than my French.

Hi Michael:

It was very nice of you to start a thread about a serious topic. Hope you had a great weekend.

There are people that are so self-centered they can't even pretend to have emotions.

My parents were married 53 years (both sadly are gone now) and when my mom passed away we got a call from a real estate agent to see if we want to check out a property. I told her we had a death in the family. Her exact words were "Does this mean you aren't going to see the property?" Never once sorry for your lose!

It is inexplicable but does exist on adaily basis.

Be glad you have compassion.

Have a great week!

It is a shame that someone tries to profit from other peoples pain and suffering. However, I also believe in the relative decency of the human spirit and that means that the majority of the people out there will do the right things when it comes right down to it. Now, I am including an excerpt here from the original post announcing the gentleman's passing to make a point:

I wanted to let everyone know of his passing and that at this time the cause of death isn't known he will undergo an autopsy later today. When I have more news I will let you know.

Please if you know Barry be kind enough not to fill his email with condolences right away. Allow Martha a couple of days to get herself together. I will be helping her with Barry's business as soon as she is able to devote some time to it.

Barry was one of my best friends and I will miss him dearly. If you have questions you can write me and I will do my best to answer you quickly.

I will be setting up some kind of fund on behalf of Martha in the near future if you are so inclined to help.

This is a shock and when I got the word about and hour after his passing I was stunned and I will be doing all I can to help Martha.

I will post back here as soon as I have more news.

Jim Miller

Please note that he originally stated that he was going to do something for the family and he has since added the donations part onto it at the bottom. When others talk about collecting to help his family, it is possible that they are telling the truth and so I am going to ask that unless you have proof that the person sending out the donation request letters has no intention of using them for the family, that you all stop flaming them. The original poster of the message himself is asking for donations and he has every intention of giving them to the family.

Produce the proof or stop making unsubstantiated accusations.
