Is this what they call "on autopilot"?

Hey warriors,

I was just wandering, what do you do once you reach you desired position on google? Is it safe to stop doing seo or do you still keep on working at it? Do you have to check up on it regularly to make sure its still there and what are the chances of it slipping down?

You need to maintain your position by continuously doing what you have been doing to achieve that spot, Naets. You may have lots of competitors in the same niche and they may be also working all day and night to take you out of the first page. You need to check your ranking and traffic sources on a regular basis so you'll know which traffic source you should invest more time and money. With the high chance of anyone being moved from the first to the second page, there's no reason why you should stop monitoring your position on any search engine.

Work to retain your rankings. It will take a little bit of time out of your day, but if you want to consistently get traffic and get paid... you will have to put in a little bit of time each day on your internet efforts.

Well, You really building a business, then you cannot stop it, but you have to modify it , as google is also shifting from a pure search to social media + web 2.0 relevant information .... You have to keep working strategically esp initial 69 - 90 days as long as you do strategic link building then you can take it easy, if you have Peter Garety's Strategic Link Building that will help you do the best work which will yiels great results in the future , no matter what changes around you in terms of technilogies and algorithms

Just reaffirming what others have said, you definitely do need to continue doing some maintenance. At a minimum, I would keep a very close eye on the rankings, and touch it up if you ever notice anything dropping. Of course, it doesn't need to dominate all your time and take away from other projects. I'd at least keep backlinks dripping towards it.

I recommend you to keep working, write fresh content and do seo in order to maintain your ranking. What they call autopilote is when you start make money and you automize some of the main everyday time consuming tasks. You can read the 4HWW to get an idea.

You need to keep adding backlinks and editing content so it seems natural but once you are there it is a lot easier! Not autopilot but easier.

I don't think about "making money on autopilot" like that. I think of it in more general terms. For me, it's about being able to generate residual income from the search engines due to the fact I have a lot of content out there. I don't focus on getting ranked for one keyword but rather a set of targeted keyword phrases. I get ranked for different positions depending on the competition for each keyword, but since I'm ranked for nearly all relevant variations, I know the traffic will come. It's like casting a net. Once I'm done, I move on to another product and do the same thing over again.
