Hello,
The road may be rough ahead, but with a positive attitude and if we stick together, we can overcome the obsticles that may be in our path. You get out of something what you put in,put in alot get alot, put in nothing get nothing, also If you quit you have failed, if you stick with it you will succeed.

Be positive,
Craig

Absolutely. There's nothing like a good positive attitude to help you blast through the challenges and obstacles that life (and marketing) hand you. "If you stick with it you will succeed." Agreed. Great comment.

Hey Positive Thinking is great... But it won't stop bad things from happening to you...

I always loved the classic line... "There's a silver lining in every cloud." That's BS, I've seen it rain for days straight and there was no silver lining. You just had to hunker down and avoid the storm.

S**T happens, even if you have a positive attitude.

A positive attitude will only help you deal with the crap that's coming your way, it won't help you avoid it. If you don't believe that than look at all the people that have gone to motivational seminars and left with positive attitudes. Did they all get rich and famous? Did that motivation last. Hell no.

The only thing that lasts... is work. Working damn hard. Positive attitude or not, if you work hard you'll get rewarded. But S**T may still happen to you... because that's life.

.... Silver lining in every cloud... what Bull S**T.

      Of course not Daelx.

I'm pretty sure that the original poster (and everyone else on the forum) isn't stupid enough to think that having a positive attitude will stop bad things happening to them.

That's just a fact of life.

I've had so many bad experiences happen to me that I've lost count. And I'm sure I'll have many more. But that wasn't the point of the post. The point of having a positive attitude is that you can handle anything and everything that happens to you with much more success.

I wouldn't trade all of my bad experiences for all the gold in Fort Knox because I've learned so much from them and they've helped me to evolve.

The truth is that without a positive attitude a person can have all the external success that they want (by working hard) but they'll be unsuccessful internally. Because having a positive attitude and believing that ...

"Every cloud has a silver lining."
"Every failure, heartache, and adversity carries with it the seed of an equivalent or greater benefit."
"When life hands you lemons make lemonade."
... And all the rest ...
Is an essential part of being successful. There's no point being wealthy if you have a cynical and negative attitude towards life's challenges.

    Well, Craig,

I for one do not believe a single word of all this PMA crap.

It is absolutely impossible to be negative, to make a negative statement or do any of the other assinine things for which you will be accused of being negative.

Just like a child sucking on a comfort blanket, all the adherents of PMA have lost their way and have the infantile belief that attempting to change the natural order of things is going to make them successful.

Meanwhile, the time they waste telling themselves and others how positive they are militates against their success.

Try disconecting the negative pole of your car battery and see how far you get!

Positive people are more fun to be around and have conversations with. No one likes a downer who's always talking about how things won't work and how bad everything is. Positive people also have more success than people who are negative.

For me a positive attitude and outlook isn't anything to do with The Secret/New Age Thinking/Whatever. It's simply a characteristic of people who are exceptionally successful (and happy.)

I've put a lot of time and effort into becoming a more positive person and I wouldn't trade who I am for the World. I couldn't recommend highly enough that people develop a more positive attitude and outlook. Why? Because:

      1) They'll be happier and enjoy life more 2) They'll make and keep friends easily and be the kind of person people love to be around 3) They'll take every challenge, setback, and failure in their stride 4) They'll experience more success in every area of their life. Personally I think that's a pretty good deal.

When it comes to succeeding (at anything) I think having a good positive attitude is half the battle.

Positive attitude is a boost which always keeps you going. It gives you the required energy whenever you are in need of it.
If you keep your goals focused even the obstacles will teach you the lesson of what to do and not.So keep trying and keep on trying.

    Hey there great post,

I truly believe that if you really want to succeed it is a combination of many elements.

Positive thinking is very important but keep in mind that I could be a lazy bum and still thinking very positively...

Being positive, persistent, determination (having hunger to succeed), stubborn, confident, focused, responsible...

Are key elements to succeed! I'll never forgot this quote:

"Take your dreams and turned them into goals, and then cut your goals into tiny objectives so that you can effortlessly succeed!"

I have been delving into the law of attraction for the last 18 months or so, expecially the books by Ester Hicks and I would say attitude it everything! Positive or Negative attitude, at the end of the day, life goes on... But rather than looking at things from a bad angle, why not try to look at it from the good angle... No matter how bad things looked for us, there always those who have had it worse...

It's not much, but it makes you appreciate the things you have...

If you think that you have become a more positive person and that is rocking your boat, good for you - but, for crying out load, take a reality check!

If everybody was "positive", nothing would ever get changed, nothing would ever get invented and nothing would ever improve. (Oh Yes! I can generalise with the best of them!)
Name one thing that was invented because it already existed.
Name one person who did not go shopping because he realised he did not have food in the house.
Tell me one thing that was left uncorrected because the positive person in charge could not accept that there was something wrong.

These things don't happen if you are a disciple of PMA!

Everything that was ever invented was invented to cancel out a need.
If everybody was so damned "positive" they would not be able to recognise a need let alone attempt to remedy it.
Why do positive people go to work? Because they have all the money they need - or because (poor negative sods) they don't?
PMA is a dangerous cult that feeds upon the willingness of acolytes to accept, at face value, what they have just spent money on and tells them all about being positive.
I haven't lived through fifty years of cancer by simply being positive - I have survived because I can happily embrace the negative aspects and bend them to my benefit. I don't live half a life - both the positive and negative aspects of my life create the joy and happiness with which I am surrounded.

The only thing I am absolutely positive about is that I am really sorry for people who deny themselves the most powerful motivating force on the face of this Earth - NEED! There I go being positively negative again! I just can't help myself!

You've raised some good points ArtWebster.

I understand the kind of people that you're talking about and they remind me of the scene from American Beauty where the wife is chanting positive affirmations in her car when her life is crumbling all around her and she's in a state of hysteria. LOL Remember that? And this forum needs people like yourself to contribute a healthy dose of brutal honesty and reality.

      So thank you for that.

What I'm talking about his having a healthy and realistic positive mental attitude. In my opinion people lose touch of reality much, much, more because they're overly negative than they do because they're overly positive. That used to be the case with me. (Which is why I decided to work on my attitude and outlook.) I'd misinterpret experiences and events because of my negative mental attitude.

Now because I have more of a positive mental attitude I'm much more in touch with reality and I'm enjoying life a whole lot more.

My personal opinion is that it's the "Positive Thinkers" that go about inventing and improving the World.

If they've ever been a serious inventor or contributed something significant to the World people would understand that having a positive mental attitude is a necessity. Why? Because there's a lot of challenges and obstacles to overcome. There's a lot of failure to deal with. And remaining positive is important.

Let's take Thomas A. Edison for example--the man who invented the first practical light bulb. He said: "I have not failed. I've just found 10,000 ways that won't work." And: "Our greatest weakness lies in giving up. The most certain way to succeed is always to try just one more time." If that's not an example of positive thinking--considering his achievements--then I don't know what is.

Let's look at another example of a famous research scientist who when asked how he could achieve so much more than the average person (including several important medical breakthrough) attributed his success to the positive mental attitude that his Mother taught him at a young age when he dropped a bottle of milk. He learned that: "Mistakes are just opportunities for learning something new." Again we see the reason for success being a positive mental attitude.

As long as people aren't ignoring reality like the American Beauty example I think that having a positive outlook and attitude can only be a good thing. In fact I'm certain of it because I've experienced it myself and like I mentioned before I couldn't recommend highly enough that people work on becoming more positive.

Yet another platitude hits the page with not an ounce of supporting opinion.

It is this sort of bland and banal statement that makes real people feel really sorry for those who learn by rote and fail to question what they are learning.

A positive mental attitude is a false sense of reality. It is a way of your psyche being told that you really didn't just stand in a pile of cow dung.

Anybody doing anything will do it better if they have the necessary skills and the will to apply them. Whether they are PMA cult members or radical old coots like me, it is the required skill NOT the attitude at the time that decides how well you perform an act.

I had a friend who was a PMA cultist. Each morning he would say "Every day in every way I am getting better" - in effect, he started off his day lying to himself.

Life is made up of two aspects. The first is the positive. This is something that, in uncontrolled circumstances, leads to stagnation and stultification. The second is the negative. This is what drives you. The negative forces in your life are what motivate you. They focus your actions and thoughts on over-coming them. The negative is the most powerful aspect of human life and it is very important that we all embrace and exploit it because it is the negative that drives everything.

I repeat - nothing ever was invented that already existed.
