Fiverr traffic gigs. What are the dangers?

Hi, I've heard that your site can get a bad rap from using some traffic methods. e.g. link farms, and you can get downgraded by Google.

While it's tempting to spend a small amount in order to test the results, am I likely to just get poor traffic, if much, and also pick up a lot of bad inbound links?

Would you link to a hub page, or a blogger.com page instead?

Would Squidoo object to this type of traffic?

Can anyone recommend Fiverr gigs that do fetch in some decent traffic?

Thanks

Tony

I wouldn't try to get traffic from Fiverr, ever. If it worked, they would use it themselves. Real traffic is worth way more than the $4 they are getting for it.

Well said. Fiverr is good for somethings but not for traffic.

There are dangers only if you don't know about SEO imo.

I made it a point to learn as much as I can about SEO, I asked the sellers lots of questions BEFORE buying. That allowed me to narrow it down to one girl who is absolutely wonderful at writing quality articles for me and getting me backlinks.

I have been using her for 3 months now, and my page has climbed for page 7 up to page 2. So people can tell me fiver doesn't work all day long but its more the user that doesn't work imo.

at best you'll notice nothing. at worst, you might get hit - probably not immediately, but maybe in a few months. personally I wouldn't even waste $5 on these cheap backlinking methods. I'd rather focus my efforts on trying to build something real, that people genuinely want to use and share.

    • I'm not sure whether you're talking about buying traffic (raw clicks) or buying links.

Either way it usually doesn't end well. Traffic packages end up being bots or expired domain traffic. Links can hurt you. (My latest article explains why Fiverr sellers lie to you to get you to buy their link blasts.)

There sure is a lot of interest in that $5 price point, though. We get this question a couple times a week at least.

The percentage of "useful" things on fiverr are in the single digits.

I will have to say that it is good for gimicky things you could use to promote your site....The "I'll make a video with a sign of your company in it while I play the bongos whilst jumping off Niagra falls" is good stuff...

Other than that, not so good

Its funny. I paid someone on fiver to get me over 1,000 backlinks.
I did not want that many. I was concerned I might get penalised
but I was also annoyed because no one was offering a hundred links or anything less than a thousand! Right after I paid for these links I saw all these dire warnings about how google is cracking down on people with too many "spam" links. Not good I thought.
Well my site which was no where to be found before is now on the third page of google. Other factors may be that I added some content to the site which I had neglected for years.
By the way the site was always on the first page of yahoo and bing
and I got zero traffic from them. Shows you how good they are.

I took a look at this option and one thing that stuck out like a sore thumb reading through feedback of different threads is that not once did I see

    a) anyone mention they had managed to convert any of the traffic into sales or

    b) anyone say that they had risen in ranks from the traffic/backlinks

I bought one of those 10k spam backlink packages and noticed no increase in traffic at all. I was sending the links to a site that gave away free ideas for niche sites and an ebook on how to build them. The site got penalized eventually and I let the domain expire.

      Good catch.

We all want the $5 dream to be true, alas. But look at this feedback from a guy who bought a 1000 link package on Fiverr:

I went through 40 random links from the ones that you listed and not one was an active link to my site! Most just came up with the text Magician and no active link. There were also many sex sites!! Not happy with the service at all!!!

The seller assured him the links would not harm his site in any way, but you don't want low-quality porn and casino sites linking to anything you care about.

I've heard my share of horror stories about Fiverr traffic. Not something I'm willing to experiment with at all.
