Relationship between main keyword ranking and long tail traffic

Hi warriors,

I have this interrogation sign hovering above my head...

You see, I was #1 for my main keyword before penguin and got traffic from that,...however I also got traffic from long tail keywords related to the main keyword (I am talking about a specific internal url with a specific clickbank product review, not the entire site).

Penguin smashed the site...the whole traffic down the hole.

Then I hired a warrior service and little by little over a few weeks the ranking for the main keyword is getting better and better...however, I am still far off first place.

Traffic? As good as Null...You know, page 10 is equivalent, in terms of traffic to page 1,000. Basically, it is like being covered by the Harry Potter's invisibility cloak.

Anyway. My TWO questions are:

1) In your experience, IF I get back to #1 would I also get back the long tail keyword traffic I once enjoyed?

2) Have the answer to this question changed after penguin?
#keyword #long #main #ranking #relationship #tail #traffic
