Could we be losing sales because paypal ask to add credit card?

Hey warriors, personally when I am buying stuff online where there is a paypal option, I have no problems at all. However, I just got an email from someone that was trying to buy a product and paypal wanted them to add a credit card. They even said that they had more than enough funds in their paypal account.

Here's the email:

Message Body:
I clik on pay by paypal and I am taken to the paypal site where it wants me to add a credit card.

I DO NOT WANT TO ADD A CREDIT CARD BECAWZZZ PAY PAL THEN DEBITS MY CREDIT CARD. My credit card is NOT an option for payment. There is plenty of money in my paypal internet account.
----------------------------------

So guys what do you think, could we be losing sales because of this?

I had some problems with customers that told me PayPal doesn't accept their credit cards. I lost some business here.

That's true but the fact is we really don't know how much we could be losing this way because not all customers will take the time out to email you about the issue. Some will just move on.

Thanks for your input, appreciate it.

If I remember correctly ( and I understand your question) there's a small text link under the "add credit card" area that allows them to proceed anyway if they have a paypal balance.

Paypal wants EVERYONE to have a credit card on file.
So if a customer who does not have one on file attempts to make a purchase, Paypal will try to get them to add one. However, if they scroll down, they should see a link allowing them to proceed. I don't think you're losing too many sales because most people have added some kind of card to their accounts. You almost have to in order to transact business.

However, if you're concerned, just let your customers know what to expect and how to proceed without adding a credit card if they don't want to.

Are you selling something with a monthly recurring fee? If so that might be the reason. Try offering a 1 month only option that doesn't have a recurring subscription and it won't ask for their credit card.
