Friendly Reminder to all Warriors - re Internet Security

I would like to advise new warriors or anyone else who is unaware not to post a live link to your email address on any forum, here or elsewhere.

This is to prevent email harvesters and other nasty bots from using your email address to spam you or to spoof ...or otherwise do any damage to you.

stay safe

Might I also point out that using (at) in the middle of your email address instead of the regular @ symbol does not achieve anything. Email harvesters know all the tricks in the book and they will still pick up your email address if it's in that format.

Either do not post your email address online or, if you really have to, only do so using an image.

eventually you realize that your email is on the plow by a few irresponsible people. I too have experienced this. like Willr do, you can use [a]t as [@]. so this kind richray [at] gmail.com. and explained [at] is mean [@]. due to email hijackers use it to search for email.

If you want people to contact you, simply offer them a contact form that they can type in on your site. This is better than leaving a raw email address on your site.

    Hello Karen and Randall,

    Thank you for the reminder.

Email spamming is actually the main reason why we don't write the exact/clickable email address on our sales thread; not even on our website. We've been hearing some business partners who are receiving more spam emails that genuine inquiries regarding their businesses.

Randall's suggestion is a good one, too. Thank to both of you.

glad to help. Honestly, you can't be too careful these days. What a shame that the minority always spoils it for the majority.

But the good always prevails - and that's what keeps me going

Internet security should be a top priority, at all times, for each one of us.

If you must use your e-Mail address you can also use the WF PM to provide that to your clients, sellers you have bought from etc.

If you don't have enough post to send PM, post in the thread asking the person you want to communicate with to send you a PM with their e-Mail address, so you in turn can provide your address to them. A little bit of a drawn out procedure, but it works like gangbusters for protecting your live e-Mail address.

I'd go a little step further, call me paranoid, but have numerous e-mail addresses. Business e-mail, personal e-mail, marketing e-mail.

When you are marketing you will have some website that poorly filters your information so that , even though you took the necessary precautions, those bots got your e-mail address anyways.

When that happens its best to not have a single e-mail address. If forummarket@yoursite got grabbed by the bot and is now filled with 10,000 spam e-mails, its much better than having everything affected.

yes, absolutely. More so if you use open source software to power your websites!

I agree, I have a couple of Gmail accounts and several Yahoo accounts that I use to subscribe to some lists. I call these my "throw-away email accounts"

I never leave my orginal address anywhere. You wont beleive it but I hardly get 1 spam mail a day. Sometime none at all. But on my secondary email, well I never look, its over 30k I think.
