Youtube for videos, twitter for short text, Pinterest for pictures. I've just been browsing around it since getting my invite but from the beginning it looks like you will have to market using images.

From that point it looks to me like the ones that will dominate using it are graphic designers, website designers, and people with actual products with pretty pictures.

My thoughts on how I plan to go into it?

Easy enough, I'm thinking pictures. People like cute pictures. If its cute they may even read the message on it, comment about it and all the good stuff.

So a teddy-bear holding an eBook, which will link to the website selling the eBook.

Pinterest as a "source of revenue" = clawing for money stuck under the couch cushion

You can do better than this.

Learn some real skills so that you can work on long term projects instead of jumping from wave to wave before you hit the rocks so to speak.

- Online Cataloging: That's the very obvious & effective.
- Event Management: Events are dynamic and exciting, User can preview pics, guest profiles, and count-down boards are all in play for event profiles.
- Discount Coupon: It is good for offering coupon too. Time to load up that Groupon RSS feed.
- Holding Contests: Organize 'Pin & Win' contests are a fantastic opportunity to build a follower base, and to generate some viral buzz about this offering.
- Product Launching: Get a Board going and start getting feedback. Engage your potential user base with bios of the staff, functionality Pins, and suggestion boxes.
- User-Generated Content Boards: Let people use your board as a way to submit their own contributions with similar topics.
- Media Aggregation: Take advantage of the aggregation functionality of the RSS feature. Pinterest can organizing Youtube videos quickly or juggles a photo gallery into an easy-to-read catalogue in seconds.

Stage 1. Build a following of people interrested in your market. Do this by pinning stuff that people in your market is interrested in and fit with your products. Also repin, and follow everyone who repins your stuff.

Stage 2. Get traffic from your pins. Most people like to stay on pinterest when they are in pin mode, so you will need to be clever in how to turn those pins into traffic to your website.

The more followers you have, the more repins you will get, and the more repins you get the more followers will come. It is very slow in the beginning.

  I basically just got started with Pinterest, but I have used images with alt tags in the past to help boost my rankings. I am going to get a handle on this and maybe also use the embed code for specific pins on my blog over the next couple weeks to see where I am getting my traffic. If it boosts up Pinterest followers, than I must say that it will be a great thing, but I would have to treat it as an outbound link, but as people follow you in Pinterest, I assume that you will see pins from other mutual pinners that you never knew and connected to. This can allow them to follow you back and get back to your pins and thus your site, but keep in mind, you still need to generate curiosity in anything that you are doing.

I have had a few people repin my pins, whatever that means, but to be honest, I'm so busy with Facebook, Twitter, You Tube, StumbleUpon, Yahoo Answers, writing blog posts and articles, and filling orders, that I really don't have time to figure out how it works. I can get you Pinterest followers for five cents each though, if you want them.
