How do I track Sales?

Hey All!

I am a new Warrior and have been browisng the site for a few weeks now but this is my first post. I did a quick search before posting this but really couldn't find any answers.

Anyway, what I am looking for is a way to track sales from my web site.

For example; I have a website set up with several dozen affiliate links. To be more specific one of the links is to Office Depot.

Someone comes to my site, click on the Office Depot banner/image/etc., goes to office depot dot com and buys an office chair for let's say $200. I make 5% commission and I obviously see that sale through my LinkShare.com reports.

I now want to take this a bit farther, as an incentive to the person who comes to my site I want to provide them with a "cash back" program. In other words, someone comes to my site and now I have them log in first (or sign up if they are new). So now I know who they are and that they have "opted-in" to my site.

So now when they click on Office Depot and purchase that chair for $200 I am going to give them say $5.00 back (i.e. my commission is 5% or $10 - I keep $5 and five $5 back to the customer).

So with all this in mind, what I need is a way to track the sale from start to finish. That means when someone clicks the Office Depot link from my website I need to somehow place a cookie (or something) on thier computer that will track the sale and report it back to me so I can add the total to thier account.

Hopefully I have explained this properly. Any suggestions on how to track sales like this would be greatly appreciated!!

Todd

    I have not tried this myself but have had several colleagues told me they were very satisfied with www.ClickAudit.com and they say it is free.

      RayAndLisaJ,

      Thanks for the reply! I took a look at ClickAudit per your request however, upon visiting the site i found this post;

      "On January 15th 2009 ClickAudit Link Tracker ceased to operate...."

      I have visited a few sites that I know have a function like this working and all of them are using a PHP script of some type. Here is a quick example;

      <a href="/clkagent.php?adid=998&co=1-800-FLOWERS&merchid=254" target="_blank">

      So obviously this is a link to 1-800-Flowers but they first send you through the clkagent.php script. I am purely guessing here but I am thinking they place a cookie on the persons computer and then send them to 1-800-Flowers.com. The cookie is then updated after the person completes a sale.....again, purely a guess or assumption.

      I was looking at Ad-TrackZ.com which specifys on the web page "Tracks sales and actions on remote, affiliate websites".

      But before I buy into any one specific pavkage I wanted to see if there were any other recommendations.

      Thanks again!
