Aspects of Article Syndication

Hello

I now have the time to get stuck into article syndication. I have read quite a lot ot the excellent threads on this issue. I would just welcome some advice on certain aspects of the process.

1. Signatures

Does anyone have advice about what to include in a signature which provides a link to your niche website.. I realise you don't want to adopt too much of a sales pitch in the signature but equally you want to arouse a spark of interest which takes the reader to the website. Any speciifc thoughts would be welcome.

2. Backlink to where?

Once you have got the reader of your syndicated article to click on the link, to which page on your website should you take the reader? Should it be the home page, a squeeze page, another article page (with, of course an opt-in form on it) or where? I realise that there may not be a 'right' answer on this but any thoughts would be welcome.

3. Emails to list

I would welcome any advice on what type of content your should put into your emails to your list, especially those emails in which you are not directly promoting something. Obviously it has to be relevant to your niche but should it effectively be a new article, and if so how long? Should it be material that is already on one of the pages on your website, if you have quite a lot of content on your website? How long should these emails be?

Again there may not be a right answer but any ideas would be welcome.

Thank you.

Philip

I personally go with something that fits the niche as a whole, and let it become my own branded resource box/signature for most articles. Of course, I'll change it up from time to time if the article warrants it. The best thing you can do is have the resource box flow as if it is just the ending of the article and not a standalone piece of content. An example:

"...and that's when I knew for sure that aliens were real, and that they had hostile intentions against the human race."

Fakey McPhakerson has now been fighting the Goeiroer invasion for five years. You can read about his experiences as an intergalactic freedom fighter at Imnot Crzay (Fake blog/website name).

Take them to the homepage ideally, where an opt-in form is prominent on the page, but is not the only thing on the page. Let those who came just to opt-in get on your list, but make sure there is an ability for those on the fence to look around and become further convinced of your quality.

A lot of times your articles will do just fine. Think of it like this: once on your list, your readers are probably almost exclusively dealing with you through email. In fact, you can condition them that way by informing them before/upon opt-in: "Hey want to see my content before anyone else! Only on Joe's fake list can you see it before everyone else!" Do you run the chance of them seeing the same article more than once? It happens from time to time undoubtedly, but there hasn't been any complaints for me at least.

If you do a good enough job establishing yourself as an authority, you are going to be one of the only, if not the only one they are going to read from anyways. They won't see your syndicated work as much out on the web. That's OK, because they are seeing it on your list first .

Thank you Joe. That is really helpful.

      Another question if I may.

Apart from an opt-in form what type of content should be on the home page? An explanation of what is available on the site? Details of the free report?

      Thank you.

Something that I played around with on a new site and that seems to be working well is actually putting an excerpt of my opt-in report on the landing page. It stays there, because I always keep my landing pages static by the way. I'll take an exciting and informative part of the book (that doesn't give everything away) and let potential subscribers read it and then get sucked in. By the time they're done, and reach that "the full report is available through the form here" part, I tend to have them hook line and sinker.

It allows you to leverage your content and build up incentive for the opt-in without having to write anything new.

I'm just a newbie, but here goes:

          Signature -

Jamie Alexander writes about *Lucid Dreaming and helps people explore the dream world at his website, http:LucidAbility.com

          * This goes to an internal page.

          Backlinks -

          See above for details

          Content -

I try to keep it short and sweet. Build up a little friendly banter and give them good advice, usually stuff not on any websites. I usually include a link to get them used to clicking back through to my website.

I never link to a recent article. I always go to an older one so they will look. Hopefully reduces bounce rate.

Overall, just good advice that's concise and smells nice with a little bit of ice to entice.

You want to extend the positive experience the reader just had with your article. Your signature/resource box should offer to do that in a non-salesy way.

"Nom D. Plume has been teaching parrots to sing opera for years. You can get a free excerpt of his new book "Carmen for Cockatiels" at singingparrot(.)com"

Like Joe said, ideally your home page with more information and a prominent display of your opt-in offer and form. A straight squeeze page may gather a higher percentage of opt-ins, but fewer down-funnel conversions.

It's all about continuing a positive experience.

Again, the key is continuing a positive experience. New material, 'encore presentations', links to resources, blog posts, videos, etc. along with promos.

The promo might be as simple as:

"PS - Just a reminder. The coupon code (code) for Product X [link] expires on [date]..."

      Extending this thought...

A lot of people worry about a reader finding the same article on multiple sites. Maybe this is a valid concern if they find it on multiple directories. If they find it on multiple authority sites and/or ezines and/or print publications, it's actually something to celebrate.

If you weren't the bee's knees in your subject, your content would not be published in multiple, credible places. Therefore, you must be an expert and someone to listen to, right?

Being a simple kind of guy, my articles end with a resource box that is always just a simple, one-line call to action that is alluringly provocative and irresitible:

Simple Simon sez you can get something.com starting with nothing.com.
