Online Tutoring Business Help

Hi All

This is my first post here so let me introduce my self. I'm a math professor and presently teaching in a reputed university in India. Also I'm holding a graduate degree in Computer Science so I know fair deal about software and online web world ( but total novice about IM )

So based on my background I tried venturing in online math tutoring in my free time but sooner I found it to be very profitable ( based on my financials it was very lucrative side business ). I got references from few of my students who went to US , UK and Europe for higher studies. But now I'm planning to start a proper online business and hence I ended up here finding how to market my services. I know this is not much discussed here but still I believe you guys can help me.

To begin with I have designed my website tutorformaths(dot)com and almost completed it. So now what should I do so that I can get targeted students ?

Thanks in Advance !!!

You can do your own SEO for your site or hire SEO services from this forum. You will see many SEO offers in the Warriors for Hire and WSO sections.

A faster alternative would be to use paid traffic through Google which will bring you instantaneous results. If you contact Google they will depute someone to set up a campaign for you. You can also use MSN's Adcenter.

Good to see you put your natural talent and tested service forth in your business...great idea to take it online and further expand.

How is your training delivered to remote customers - by phone, Skype?

    A few suggestions:

    1. Your main page needs to have a hard-hitting set of headlines (more than the current message that "we will help you..." - pick a few of the end objectives you know people will use your tutoring to achieve (Getting a degree, passing that next test, finally understanding instead of memorizing, etc...) You want to really hit the emotional triggers in your headline(s)

    2. Your benefit points at the beginning of the body of the main page are also very good, but your sales page needs some structure. Try starting with "Dear Struggling Match Student". Then follow with a paragraph or two of "As a past math professor who has recently helped X, Y, Z customer finally achieve their goal of getting A, B or C...we know it is possible to take the frustration and hard work out of learning math.
Then go into your questions, but using bullets to separate out the questions. Carry on with your sales page, but chop it up into short paragraphs for easier reading.

    3. I would have an Order NOW option on your first page...you need to have a call to action right on your first page, likely two in this case.

    4. The suggestion around keyword optimization is a good one - know the keywords your potential students use to search for math help...then target those perhaps with a blog installed on a sub-directory on your site to bring in traffic

    That should get you started...

Thanks !!! This is just awesome. Whatever suggestions I got in this short span is too good for me. In fact I'll start working on these suggestions right away.
Also I deliver the sessions using an interactive whiteboard with built in audio visual tools. Its quite similar to Adobe Connect, but more affordable.

The main difference between selling online and offline is the trust factor. People tend to trust people they meet in the real world whereas when they see your page online you are just another (of thousands) trying to sell them something. So you need to find ways to overcome that. Maybe you can use video clips of you teaching something and testimonials, but you need to think about everything that you can do to make yourself real to potential buyers and to build trust.

One thing to know is that Americans don't say 'maths.' They say 'math.' To people unfamiliar with the British idiom of 'maths,' your domain name might seem odd.

Totally agree with you but "math" in the domain name was not available in any combination. So atlast I went for "maths". More over the exact domain name has a search of 100k+ hence that further motivated me. But none the less I plan to target the math word in my anchor text. Hope that may help to some extent.
