Email Marketing Questions

Opinions please for sending updates, special offers, info on new products....
To send out an email blast to your list, what would be:
  • the best to time of day?
  • the best day of the week?
  • how often? -- how much is too much/too little?
What are some tips and techniques you have learned that really make a difference.
What is a good rate of "opens"?

Thank you. I really appreciate you taking the time to answer these questions.

Best time of the day , Early morning. Schedule for 6 AM so that first thing your subscribers see when they come to office at 9 AM is your mail.

Best days of week, Tuesday and Wednessday. All my tests proved that

You should mail every 2nd day if possible. More you mail, more your subscribers remember you by your name. Dont go away for too long, beleive me or not, it will kill your relationship with the list.

Most of all the questions you asked are irrelevant if your list trusts you. I have fond thru countless emails time of day doesnt matter as much as the context of your message and relationship with the list.

I base my info off the fact I send daily emails to a list of 7k in the musclebuilding niche.

Your questions are irrelevant because it depends on the list.

I email to lists some twice a day because they really want the info. But other lists anything more than once per week gets me killed on spam and unsubs.

Just keep track of everything you try so you can see what works and what doesn't. I highly recommend not emailing even once per day unless you have a specific reason to believe this will work for your list because more often than not, it won't work.

Things to worry about in order of importance:

    1. Deliverability
    2. Content
    3. Split Testing/Tracking

    1. If you get autospammed then you may as well not email at all for the most part. Check your subject lines, your email messages, your email service/server etc. Make test emails on gmail, yahoo and other major email providers and add them to your list. See what happens when you send.

    2. Deliver interesting content, don't repeat unless you also offer something new with it preferably. ie. 50% off mywebstore.com should not be followed up with the same email. Follow up with, xyx new product now on mywebstore.com and dont forget 50% off till the end of the week.

    3. Try new layouts, subject lines, email send out days and times etc. There is always something you can improve. Some changes can easily maximize your results by 20% or more, some less. But continuing to try new things will keep pushing you in the right direction.

I might be wrong here, but I don't think it really matters what hours and days you send emails, as long as you have a catching headline, you will stand out.

About the quantity, I think once or twice a week is good enough. Personally, I would unsubscribe from any list that sends me daily emails.

        Usually this

but as I said before depends on your list.

Survey your list to see how often they would like to hear from you?

Also you will find that no-one can give you the answer, if you think you're mailing too often you probably are. It's also worth getting into the habit of sending out messages when you create a new content on your blog.

Just be yourself and concentrate on building relationships with your list.

andrew above mentions some good points

i like to email my lists on a regular basis with a broadcast which most of the time i will send them to a new blog post which is relevant to them

i send all my buyers to my blog too to read my blog content

not only does this help with building a lot more trust and credibility with your subs but you are also giving your posts more exposure because many people end up socially sharing my posts so sending your lists to your blog is a great strategy

every list is different though so the best thing to do is get your hands dirty and test things for yourself

Yes, besides from content, there are many other techniques to promote the email. Now, there are some tips about how to do it better:

    1. Write a good subject line
The Subject line that is read before the email is even opened. If this sounds canned, or like a sales pitch, the rest of the email will probably never get read.

    2. Use proper formatting.
Proper formatting allows recipients to focus on the main point and increases the chance of them reading the entire email.

    3. Use emphasis mark to emphasize your main sentence. It is convenient for customers to notice the most important point of the content. However, not too much or it will lost its function.

    4. Professional knowledge.
It includs grammar mistakes and introduction about your products. If there is something wrong, customers will have a negative impression about your email even company.

    5. Build a Targeted Mailing List
It is one of the best ways to add your success rate to have new clients.

It is just one part of how to do with email marketing. In fact, it will be more efficient if you have an email marketing software, which can help with getting email addresses, managing them, creating message, sending the email and analyzing the results. You can download a free one from the site to have a test.
