My Detailed Amazon Aff Progress...Advice Sought

It's about month 3.

My conversions to Amazon seem to be great. On my main site, I have about a 35% bounce rate. I get about 1 Amazon click per visitor. This is because some visitors often click from 2 to 5 different links (Is this normal?).

Im converting about 5% on Amazon, even though the buyers generally don't buy anything related to my site. I'm in the Home & Garden Niche, so maybe this is a demographic thing where older people are more prone to buy something more than younger people.

So from June 1st till now I have about 320 amazon clicks, where Ive made $33.50 (6% tier) with 18 orders and 1 return. Thats about 10 cents per amazon click.

My site is getting about 5 hits per day now (150 per month), so im making about $10-$15 per month in Expected Value.

Im only averaging $2.00 per amazon sale, even though Im targeting products between $40 and $150.

Feel like I should be doing better since Im getting many amazon clicks but small sales (and haven't hit that big one yet, which is sure to bring up my average).

I also have a video game site where Ive had about 15 amazon clicks and ZERO sales...Wondering if the younger generation is just there to browse.

I have no reviews on my site...Just general information with text links inside posts and in widget areas. How do I start targeting buyers that are serious to buy the exact product I want them to buy and not some $10 CD or Toy?

Im selling mostly umbrellas and shades for the outdoors. Most of which don't have a specific model # like an electronic device. So they are using search terms like "backyard shades" and coming to my site where I show them the pictures and links...But they just aren't biting on exact product, even though they are interested enough to click my links.

*Ive also made about $4 from Google Adsense

Hey there. Well you are doing better than me. 0 sales but I am not pushin too hard. I just have a store on my site if anyone wants to look around. Sounds like you are doing a good job of tracking. I would recommend going for more targeted keywords such a particular brand of umbrella or shade. If they type in the exact brand they are more likely looking to buy. Also buyers keywords such as "cheap shades" "discount shades". Your video game site could be quite lucrative ,you just have capture attention and get the younger generation to stay longer than 2 secs and then bouncing. shock and awe tactics for them. You also really need to add those reviews...Ive heard it goes a long way to help a sale or at least a click. Maybe I should listen to my own advice and start some amazon. lol. And just remember this. You don't have to make a total killing off one site. Just get it rolling some steady money and build another one the same way. I hate cliches, but "rinse and repeat". Hope this helps a lil bit.

One more thing..... you might just try selling them the cd or toy they are buying anyway. At least make those sales.

If you want people to start buying specific stuff on your site, you need to write product reviews and target keywords at the end of the buying cycle. You also need to target the right keywords. These things are what separate buyers from browsers. Oh, it's also good to have articles on your site related to stuff in your niche, which is what I suspect you're doing now. It's why people come to your site browse so much. You should also cross promote some stuff that compliment the products you promote so that you can get bigger commissions.

    Good luck,
    Joey

You mentioned 5% conversion rate. At 5%, you are doing well. Since the stuff you are targeting really isn't stuff that people search for specifically (most don't search for a specific umbrella), you will have a tough time going that route. You are in a niche where people don't necessarily look for specific products.

That said, with a 5% conversion rate, just keep doing what you are doing and add content to scale up traffic. You could also add a section of product reviews for specific products like lawnmowers, power tools, etc. These are the types of things people will search for very specifically.
