The Changing Face of Facebook

This has probably already been posted on... if so I can't find it, sorry.

Anyone else seen Ed Dale's new vid on Facebook:-

Thirty Day Challenge TV, Ustream.TV: The Latest Thirty Day Challenge News, Site Makeovers, Guitar Riffage, The Latest web 2.0 happenings and News For

Good stuff as ever from Ed...

In a nutshell most people use Facebook to communicate with their friends, family, work friends, etc. And that's what you should do... on your personal account.

If you want to use it for marketing set up a separate page or group for that. But which one...

Well a group is more like a forum, so (for example) you could set up one up for Alsatian Dogs

But set up a page for a Dog Training product.

Then invite people to become 'fans'. LOL! I know I hate the terminology but that's what they use. (OK. Probably a bad example...)

That's why Ed's deleted loads of his 'friends' from his personal account and I'm gonna do the same. (Like anyone will care.)

But I'll apologise here and now for using my personal account for marketing to my Facebook friends in the past.

AND I'll apologise here and now because I'm gonna be deleting many of you as friends from my personal account unless I really do know you personally. I hope you understand why...

No wonder my boys would never go near my Facebook account... it was full of AM stuff... they know what I do and think it's cool but they are only interested in my personal stuff. Get it!?

I do ZERO marketing on FB with my own account. Pages & groups only. Upon the rare occasion that I promote anything on my Wall, it's a genuine "like" on my part, without regard for compensation.

Good move Michael. I'm relatively new to FB and despite the fact that my partner had set up a business page for us month's back I wasn't using it.

Still, I don't feel too bad as Ed Dale had cocked it up as well.

Perhaps my explanation was too brief. I can only suggest you watch Ed Dale's video (link in the original post). Unfortunately that isn't brief (at nearly an hour) but it covers your question.
