Nigerian Warriors: How do You Do it?

I know there are a number of Nigerian Warriors here so this is a question for Nigerian Warriors who are legitimately making money online.

How do you do it?

I ask because I am fairly regularly contacted by Nigerians who want to know how they can purchase my products and, of course, the short answer is, they can't. ClickBank does not deal with Nigeria and I don't think Paypal does either (though I am not 100% sure).

Clearly there must be a way of working around these difficulties and I would think that quite a number of Nigerians, and people living in other countries not supported by the major payment gateways, would be very interested to know.

Will

        Hi Will

It's a good question - I'm not sure there is an easy answer.

I know someone in Kenya who does all his work through a mutual friend here in the UK. He just emails all the stuff over to him and trusts the friend to look after the funds. They use a UK Paypal A/c and a clickbank ID with UK address.

In this case it is someone who has visited the UK and we have known for a few years. For a new start up and unknown client it would be tough to get going.

A bit like outsourcing but I am not sure what their financial agreement is.

Ok - I'm going to crawl back into my hole feeling stupid.

PS - I do web design work for someone in Nigeria. He has paid me in all kinds of ways, but now does so by direct bank transfer. I know he has difficulties and often uses people overseas to make Paypal etc payments for him. It's hard being legit in Nigeria. I just hope the legit people start to make a difference. Change always has to come from within.

Do they play football in the Faroe Islands? Probably too cold there.

I wonder if there IS anyone here from there (err, what?)

Anyway - football is just a load of blokes chasing a ball.

Nigeria is a huge country, with a huge corruption problem. Tons and tons of scammers.

BUT... there are plenty of rich people there too. When I was there, the nice neighborhoods look just as good as the best neighborhoods I have ever seen in the US. The rick people there have money and are usually not penny pinching like us Americans. Here in the states, the millionaire next door still wants to bitch and haggle over $1000 project. Over there, things are usually more expensive and your profit margins will be higher even though you are charging more.

Its kinda funny but the truth is this, most Americans I meet online are racist. When they hear the name Nigeria, they start shouting scam - the truth is obvious, there are far too many crimes in USA than Nigeria.
Racist? No. It's not race that's the problem. The problem is that Nigeria has a very large and very active online criminal population. Yes, we discriminate against areas with a heavy preponderance of thieves and crooks. That includes much of Eastern Europe and Boca Raton, Florida.

And yes, that sucks for the folks in those places that are doing things honestly. When it matters enough, you will, collectively, get after your government to do something about it.

Places like Clickbank and Paypal don't refuse to do business with people who are likely to make them money. They stay out of places they're not legally allowed to do business, and places where the risk is so high they'd be certain to lose money to fraud.

Payment processors in this country only care about one color: dollar green.

I'm not a nigerian, but I recently designed some graphics for a Nigerian guy and he was using some guy in India (also his programmer) to handle his PayPal payments, wheras he would wire/WU him the funds first.

I also asked him about all the bad-rep about his country, to which responded with grief and told me he has to go extra miles to prove himself. I feel sorry for the legit guys like him because of a single clan in Nigeria that does all the scams (his words).

Hardly just a single clan. It's actually a pretty widespread problem in the country/region. Like you said though, it really sucks that legitimate men and women just trying to make an honest living are shunned because of where they are from.

Clickbank and paypal do not service most African countries regardless of whether they have genuine businesses or not. They have to use things like Payza or Alert Pay, Digital River, Trial Pay, 2Checkout, E-Junkie. The first 2 are the most popular.

We do do business selling to Nigerian customers. With the lack of PayPal, and most Nigerian credit cards being refused, we usually fall back on Western Union Cheques. Basically you need to find a trusted 3rd party to act as go-between.

    Hi dudes,

Here is how i was able to manage the entire situation as a Nigerian, i flew to U.S to study and with first hand knowledge of SEO and Graphics i got into my own business (IM) and already spreading into Amazon, Video Marketing, Ad sense and so on.

Occasionally, i get calls from my fellow countrymen and women and often work things out for them from my ends.

My U.S marine mentor and I are trying to see how we can get Paypal, Clickbank and the Nigerian government to work things out, i really don't know the possibility of this but the only thing i can say to Nigerian, Indian and others that Paypal operates partially or not at all should Never Say Never!

The U.S government might be involve in this since it's likely to become a government affair soon.

Where the problem lies is, perpetrators can be brought to book easily in this developed world than Nigeria and to make matters worst the government isn't responsive but i pray it will be over soon.

depends on the market. Even in the English language some interests are more popular outside the USA. I recently did a google trends check on some keywords I was interested in and Nigeria was in there but India and Sri-Lanka topped the list of interests.

Yes, North America buys more and spends more, but there are other markets out there that can compete and getting into them can make you some $$

I choose to disregard all the jokes being made about my country and answer the question, will asked.

My name is Madusha Chukwuemeka and I am a Nigerian who has been making a living on the internet for about 6 years.

I own a clickbank and paypal account because travel often to london where i have a bank account with RBS.

I use this for my paypal and clickbank accounts.

It was hard in the beginning but now..its a little better.

Trust me its so hard to make a living online legitimately as a Nigerian...far too many restrictions.

Our banks are finally waking up to the idea of issuing us working VISA cards, though most websites reject Nigerian issued debit cards.

          Some still work.

As your questions..i will do my best to answer.

MasterCard and VisaCard both credit and debit has been working in Nigeria for a very long time. 2checkout also allow Nigerians to sign up and create accounts.

Any of this cards can be used in our ATM machine with intl master or visa card inscription.

    Lovely thread,

Rosetree, I guess you are the lady who help Abayomi Aje build sites right? If yes, then mention it here.

Its kinda funny but the truth is this, most Americans I meet online are racist. When they hear the name Nigeria, they start shouting scam - the truth is obvious, there are far too many crimes in USA than Nigeria.

Back to the topic, I understand how hard it is for Nigerians to buy things online but we just have to go third party way.

I used to have a third party for paypal, he operates from nigeria with IP, this indian guy helped me with SEO and at the end of the day, I could not pay him. My third party collected the cash, he wanted to pay only to discover that paypal has limited his acct... how do i explain to my SEO friend?

One thing is for sure, as a Nigerian, if you put your eye on the goal, you will get tehre.

I've begin to love warriors, they are not racist like others online. They appreciate us and we also appreciate you guys. But for the racist amongst you, wait for it..... YOU GO WAIT TIRE.

I'm a blogger. I interview white people and they respoond to my request. All 95% +ve response so far for me.

@surfed. yes, that's me. I don't agree that someone thinking scam when they hear Nigerian is, necessarily, racist. It's nothing to do with colour, or creed, or many other things. It's a reputation that Nigeria has ,sadly, gained and for a reason. I for one don't give a ***** what colour, nationality, religion or anything else anyone is. I've been the victim of religious discrimination from within my family all my life. Sadly, Nigeria's reputation has to be changed from within by people like you showing the positive side to the world. Reputations can and do change. Apologies for lack of paragraphs. my laptop died and I'm typing this on my phone

I do buy from clickbank.com even using prepaid card from nigerian bank. Then only thing is I don't use nigerian address nor ip address.

As for paypal - I use proxy. By proxy I mean a friend in UK handle all paypal deals.

As for receiving payments for my services I uses 2checkouts and when it comes to using clickbank & paypal to receive payment for products my associates in USA & UK handles all that.

You don't keep complaining. You simply find a way around it.

If I should go by the words of a Suxes 2005, this happened just yesterday and a warrior already concluded that there are scammers on google trader--with no prove of that yet.

Google trader is a newly operater trade portal for Nigeria, Ghana and a few other countries.

I can't remember the exact words he used but his words meant that there scammers were already licking their lips on google trader.

I asked him that in everything, that's the only thing he saw and he reply was yes, that's all there is to it. I do respect Americans because they have done a whole good to this world but those with glorified pride just because they are 'Americans' still has a lot to learn. The fact that you are an American does not mean you are king.

My question to him was, what could he say of Madoff? Is he not an American? I do not blame anyone who choose categories a country of over 150million population as scammers, I do blame my government.

But one thing I WILL NEVER do is deny my identity for any reason. It's quite clear that he hates Nigerians... Yet, there are Nigerians who have been scammed by white folks but nobody hears that. I watch on news how a man narrated his ordeals: he was wrongly accused and beaten for a crime he knew nothing about and his spinal cord broken. After they found out that he didn't do any wrong, he was deported and this was done by the US police. The world never heard that...
I know of a man who was poisoned by his business partner just because he didnt want to pay but the world never heard that...

I do not want push this any further, but I would want you to personally carry out your own research on Nigeria and find out for yourself who they truely are.

Take a minute and ponder how people in that country live day by day with no constant power supply, no good roads, insecurity, poor medical care and what have you? They still strive to survive. You have Nigerians in almost every medical sector in the US, you have them in the energy sector in the US and many more, what does that tell you? Oh, I guess you don't know about that, right?

It's sad, I know there are MANY good people in that country - but with even the dishonest ones swearing up and down they're legit - it's hard to trust any of them.

Is that racist of me? Is it racist of paypal and clickbank to not do business there? No - just common sense and looking out for ones own self.

On another note, it's funny, but on many travel forums I go on - people say don't trust any nigerians THERE either as they try to rob you in person. Thailand, Cambodia, etc

I'm glad to see Nigeria's government is trying to clean things up though, the Grand Prince of Nigeria just emailed me yesterday and told me so! He even offered to protect me personally from the scammers for just $399

All kidding aside, is it a crappy situation - I would imagine that third party escrow companies are probably the best bet for now. But sometimes the Nigerian Scammers use FAKE escrow companies - so if you DO deal with one - google it to make sure it's legit and not a fake escrow site.

Sad to see some posters trying to turn this into a race issue when they should be getting together to fix the problem.

I know that the US is still the place, but I look forward to the day where I can tap into places like India and Africa...there's still a big world out there, and I want a slice of the pie! :-)

It is true , there are lots of scammy nigerian but not everyone is interested in scamming people

It makes the sincere ones actually have to work even harder than before to prove themselves

With that said , a part from me , there are people despite much adversity in Nigeria (poor power supply , extremely expensive and slow internet connection ) who are doing very well for themselves

I was lucky though , i am Nigerian but i didnt have the problem of getting a clickbank account or paypal account because i studied in the uk when i got to know IM

Look at Onibalusi Bamidele , the guest blogging king

It is hard enough trying to blog with really crappy internet , it is even harder if you are 16 years with no money and people don't trust you because you are nigerian

But obviously Onibalusi didnt know that . lol

He written more guest post than some people with all the resources placed in front of them

He is much younger than me and despite all the hardships of actually living in nigeria he found a way around and makes a honest living

He was just a 16 year old when started in October 2009

Fast forward 3 years , he is earning over $50,000 with http://www.youngprepro.com/

You don't get to choose what your country is , change the perception of country but you do choose what you do and what result you create for yourself

There is no reason why you cant be successful online , Onibalusi Bamidele with all the challenges of being nigeria is earning $50,000 a year from the internet

You can do it - Start now

There is no country under the sun that is crime free. What other interpretation can we give the prevalent all manner of Internet scams we hear of everyday from other non-Nigerians? While not encouraging crimes online or offline, it is unfair to isolate Nigeria while playing it low when other online crimes are being committed by non-Nigerians. Definitely, Nigerian Government efforts to arrest the tide is yielding fruits and it remains for the other side to this argument to see Nigeria as a country with majority population of good and honest people with equally good and viable potentials to benefit from. Hoping to see very soon, a positive change of policy by Click Bank & PayPal to accommodate Nigerians.

Though this thread is old I will like to put in my 2 cents worth to the thread creator and hopefully we can restart this whole discussion in a new direction.

For every Nigerian that managed to find a way round doing business here, there are probably a 1,000 people who LEGITIMATELY want to transact business here (sell a wso or buy one) but cant do it because of the stigma and constraints brought about by the bad guys.

However, I am not interested in defending Nigerians (yes, I am a Nigerian and have also lived in the U.S for 17YRS as an American citizen) or fighting those who think we are all criminals (I found out that those who talk about it the most are simply IGNORANT of what really is going on, or who we REALLY are as a people, or simply people who grew up with the prejudice against Nigerians even when they have NEVER met or done business with one)
    .
So I have learnt to leave that topic alone. Just like Americans shouldn't have to defend themselves against charges of drug addiction/ OR crazed Gun Slinging, because of the prevalent reports about drug addicts and murders in the USA, I dont think ANY Nigerian should have to defend himself for the actions of very few, when compared to the remaining 160million good people n Nigeria

However I think your question actually begs another bigger AND MORE PROFITABLE QUESTION FOR EVERYBODY: Why cant we find a solution that allows those who are honest and want to do business here to do it without lying about their location or identity? Who has enough VISION enough to work with ME on finding a way to create a PLATFORM that will allow AMERICANS, BRITISH, CANADIANS etc to SELL AND BUY products to and from NIGERINS without fear of being defrauded?.

THOSE WHO WILL MAKE THE REAL MILLIONS WAITING OUT THERE in Nigeria should be thinking about this. Understand this simple fact, NIGERIA RANKS AS ONE OF THE HIGHEST COUNTRIES FOR THE SEARCH TERM 'HOW TO MAKE MONEY ONLINE' and not all those people are doing that search to look for fraud victims. What would you give to be able to meet those needs?

THIS IS AN OPEN CHALLENGE TO THE GURUS WHO KNOW WHAT IT IS TO BE FIRST IN A GOOD MARKET! I am reeady ot work with you and provide the resources needed too. I dont need to introduct myslef much. Anyone can lie about their bio but Google does NOT lie. Simply google 'Ope Banwo' and then let me know if you are ready to make money in Africa by finding solutions.

I am a serious guy and looking for serious thinkers and action takers to find solutions to this problem THIS YEAR. Yeah, I AM NEW TO IM AND REALLY DOES NOT KNOW MUCH ABOUT IM, BUT THAT IS MY MISSION.

I am THINKING about this and will like to NETWORK and JV with anyone who can see the possibilites of looking for solutions that will OPEN UP NIGERIA and other African countries suffering from Paypal and CLickbank challenges.

Inbox me if you are keen. By the way, you dont need to worry about being defrauded by this Nigerian. I wont ask you for financial investment (I may maybe JV wit you if you bring something to the table that we may need in terms of expertise).

So, All I need is IDEAS AND BRAINSTORMING AND HELP IN FINDING THE RESOURCES I NEED TO MAKE THIS HAPPEN. I have very definite ideas about solutions but I need help with finding the RIGHT PEOPLE who have the capability to DELIVER THOSE SOLUTIONS and profit from it before everyone else.

I think that the best solution in this case is to find third party they trust to help them with all the bureaucracy. There is a lot of potential in theses markets and I hope there will be a better solution in the future.

I got here late, but have something to contribute that could helpout with that question. Will Edward, I am a Nigerian. And the company I use to buy products whether from clickbank or paypal is FasteCash: Online Transaction Made Easy! - Home Page.

The only discouraging part about that is I pay HIGHER compared to the normal fee others pays. So, before making any purchase I have to look at it critically to know if I stand to benefit because they do not encourage refunds as stated on the webpage they are buying from.

    Thank you.
