Entertaining Video? Or Informative Video?

Hi Folks,

Uploading video to the sharing sites can be a good way to build traffic. Obviously, it works best if your videos give the prospective viewers a good reason to watch your video. How do you do that? In a short sentence:

Make 'em entertaining!

Of course, that's easier said than done. If you want targeted traffic that might be interested in your product, then you need to make the video both entertaining and relevant to your product. Not impossible, but sometimes difficult!

An informative video usually gets fewer views, but the people who watch it are more likely to be interested in your area of expertise. But even with an informative video, it doesn't hurt to look for ways to make it more entertaining.

As a video producer, I don't see many clients who put the entertainment factor high on their list. For one thing, who is responsible for making the video entertaining? Creating entertainment out of thin air is a highly specialized skill. Some marketers may have it, some may not.

If the client asks me to start from scratch and make an entertaining video, then I'll have to put about two thirds of my effort into planning and script writing and one third into actually making the video. In other words, it will take me about three times longer to make this video compared to one where the client gives me a script.

So what's the solution? Any ideas on how to make marketing videos more entertaining? Any marketers willing to make the extra investment in trying to create entertaining videos?
