Default If you live in the UK can you join US affiliate programmes?

If you are in the UK can you join US affiliate programmes or do you have to live in the US? What about the US ebay affiliate programme do you have to live in the US to join? US programmes seem to me to be much better than the UK ones, there is a wider choice. Are any UK warriors using US programmes or even UK ones, which do you prefer?

I would prefer to join ebay US rather than ebay UK. What is the best strategy to get accepted onto it, what sort of site are they looking for?

Any input from you guys would be appreciated!

In my experience you can apply to most US affiliate programs as a UK national.

Some networks such as Amazon may pay you by cheque and in Dollars so just be sure you can cash them :-)

I'm not sure about ebay but my best advice in general is make sure you apply with at least ONE working site.

Gaining acceptance on Some US networks such as Link Share can be tricky if you try to apply with a very niche site.

You can apply to Ebay US from the UK YES, but I'd be sure your site (with which you apply) - has some US content. I once applied ( afew years ago now) to a few US merchants with a UK site - but I put a big US flag on the homepage with a link saying "Click here if you are in the US" - this landed on a page where I gave a bit of info about US merchants including Amazon .com - got accepted!

Also during the application process you are often asked to describe your site... it's always worthwhile dangling a few carrots here e.g.

"I am in the process of developing a large generic online shopping site that will feature games consoles, TV's, Audio equipment etc..."

INCLUDE stuff that is relevant to the merchant you are applying to.

NEVER apply with a half finished or "in process" site...

As for which I prefer - Amazon is mega if you devote quality time to it and do your "homework" I do about $20k a week on a bad week. Don't get me wrong I've been at it a long time and have it pretty much mastered.

I also know people who make more than that on ebay.

What I would say is decide on a path that is interesting to you (may be Ebay), and spend 2 solid weeks doing nothing but research on that niche/sector.

  • Keyword Research
  • What Products Convert the Best
  • How to get TARGETTED traffic
  • How To Create Strong Calls to Action
  • How to Create Urgency in the Mind of Your Site Visitors
Stuff like that...

Cheers

Thanks for your replies guys. Brilliant comments, that's why I always ask warriors before jumping in.

I suspected that it may not be straightforward. The UK acceptance may be relatively easy but the US acceptance will require some savvy. I don't want to get rejected and start over again. So I will now do as you suggest, i.e do some prep work on a suitably US orientated site, with some US branding before applying. I have looked at UK affiliate programmes but am not impressed, the US market seems to have much more scope. Amazon.com looks a great programme too as long as you put the effort in which you most certainly a have!

Thanks for the hint about contacting ebay! I checked on their site and they give very little information about acceptance criteria I think they deliberately do this to stop people "preparing" their sites to give them what they want.

Thanks again for your help guys!
