Youtube blocks ALL Music videos

The UK site of youtube is blocking all music videos over a row over royalities owned to artists. This will come in with immediate effect.

they arent blocking them here, they are still showing the videos, just no sound on the copyrighted vids.

this is silly in my opinion.

I think the Record Agencies in the UK are finally taking action.

According to the beeb it's not copyright google are in trouble for but the artists agency that google claims want a 'silly' amount to continue to show music videos.
Hopefully they come to an agreement as it'll kill youtube in the UK.

exactly. How am i supposed to enjoy The Safety Dance with no music?!?. Though it is kind of amusing if you play another song while the vid is playing

Nice way for the record companies to eliminate visibility for their artists.

They've got a track record of this... all the way back to fighting FM stereo radio because broadcasting in stereo might give pirate tape makers a master source with too good of sound quality to dupe the product.

Tsk. Sometimes I enjoy watching a good music video on YouTube. Shame they couldn't have come to some kind of deal.

In the BBC article it states that premium music videos (not all music videos) will be removed. To be honest I haven't a clue what premium means but I'd take a guess that it means more current music. They may still have some kind of licence for older music. We'll have to see.
