Do You Promote Anything Just for a Commission?

We were approached earlier in the week by someone wanting us to promote their course to our database.

I asked for a review copy and was told: "We don't do that but you'll make over $200 per sale"

My response was: "Mate even if you'd pay us $10,000 per sale, we'll NEVER promote anything we haven't seen!"

Why?

Because if we promote garbage it isn't only the vendor that will get a bad reputation - it is the one promoting them.

What about you?

Would you promote stuff 'Just to make a commission' or do you want to know what you promote before you promote it?

It depends on the venue. I promote lots of things to SEO traffic that I would never promote to my list.

I only promote things to my list that I have had experience with. If I promote a product, it's because I have used it and I like it, sometimes I will promote a product I haven't bought but again, this is only if I think my list will like it and find it useful.

It's hard to get a good reputation on WF but it's so easy to et a bad one. I don't go anywhere near anything I don't know about... it's just no worth it.

Like most - I'll only promote stuff I've seen that I generally think will help my subscribers/visitors.

That way you get repeat buyers - you sell crap all the time and people will stop buying from you, as simple as that.

Yes I would like to see what I would be promoting as it is my reputation online if I promote something to people who trust in me and it turns out bad, then I look bad.

They approached you, inviting you to promote their course, and they wouldn't even give you a review copy after you'd shown a sign of potential interest?!

I think understanding the product is essential if you want to keep your customers happy. Selling for a short term gain is NOT a good business model.

If there is a penny to be made, I promote it.

You did the right thing. Not only does promoting crap ruin your reputation, but it's a waste of time. The vast majority of things today come with a money-back guarantee, so if it sucks, people don't hesitate to get a refund. Plus, I think it's just cruel.

I feel that you made a good decision as you do not want to send out something that will have a negative effect on your business.
