Whats the best and most effective way to promote your local site in your CITY?

Whats the best and most effective way to promote your local site in your CITY? I know about newspapers, radios, facebook local targetting etc. But is there any other proven and effective ways anyone knows? Its a daily deals site that we're opening for one city, thanks.

    Sponsoring local events would get the name out there. Hand out free coupons to gather interest if you can.

    Again make a Facebook person (as well as a page) and add everyone you can from your city. At least they'll see the site name and possibly add as a friend.

    Just ideas - I've never actually promoted a daily deal site!

    One of our clients are promoting local businesses in Los Angeles. We've been writing reviews for our client's clients using the platform of Glowing Reviews - How it works. We're not an affiliate of glowingreviews.co though. Perhaps, you can use that in your marketing campaign.

    There are tons of ways to promote your site locally. But the effective ones would doing local events, another would be paying ads to your local radio station.

    Do SEO, Google places, build an SMS list, all basic internet marketing stuff.

    Local SEO could be a start for you. Start by getting your google places up and running. If you want to expand more in your city use online methods that are free like Kijiji or Craigslist to advertise your product.

    Offline advertising is more expensive but could get more local attention, as you mentioned Radio, TV, Print (anyform) could attract attention to those who aren't computer savvy.

    "If it ain't broke don't fix it" - do what your competition is doing and try to best them at what they're doing.

    If you live at U.S, you can use Adwords and specify your city location. This is effective.

    Craigslist is a good classified site to target a city.

    Just be careful if you use Kijiji as if they feel your site is something that competes with them they will not post your ad or will delete if spot it.Working on a paid local jobboard as theirs is full of scams and people posting wanted jobs and posted grand open coming they dropped my ad like lightning.
