Amazon Niche Site Help

Two Big Questions, i am doing an amazon niche site using a system i found, however it missed two big questions for me...

1) Can I target a one word niche, I want to do airbrushes, the site will be about various different types, but can I do a website like airbrushcentral.com and use the various posts to bring in longtail traffic?

2) How Many Pages, okay, now the method I am using focuses I high targeted keywords so coverting hopefully like 20%+ so anything that is above 15 or 20 visits a month is up for grabs. I am thinking I will eventually start to pull traffic for more common keywords, but my root keyword is still airbrush...very broad. For getting a good PageRank how many posts would everyone recommend?

Thanks in advance!

I don't know what niche you are referring to. Air brushes for what purpose? Anyway....Yeah, you can create a domain name to promote a host of products. Just make sure that your domain name reflects your niche. Also, your blog should contain both product reviews and articles on stuff in your niche. You should also build a list. No one can tell you the answer to your second question because there are a number of factors involved.

You should also know that there is a difference between your overall site rank and page rank. Different pages on your site will have different page ranks depending on how much traffic they get for keywords and stuff. I started getting page rank for various pages on my site before my actual site rank went up.

    Good luck,

It's a great idea to build a site around a single one word broad niche. It means you can build the site up into an authority site in that niche. You can have lots of product reviews on the site and pages on the subject of airbrushes to bring in some long tail traffic.

If I understand you right, you want to rank for "airbrush"? It will be very difficult to rank for this single word but you would be able to rank for buyer keywords like "best airbrush", "airbrush reviews" and "airbrush ratings".

You don't gain page rank from the number of pages your site has. Page rank is passed from back links. You don't need to concern yourself about page rank anyway as it's not the main ranking factor.

I would launch the site with 5 product reviews of the top 5 best selling airbrushes and 5 pages on the topic of airbrushes. If the site converts and is profitable you can build it out with more pages and product reviews.

I would generally agree with Barry. It would be difficult to rank for the term "airbrush" - as he mentioned you'd be much better trying to rank for "airbrush reviews" or something similar to this. This is especially true because you're new to Amazon sites - it's much better to start with a small niche which is manageable than to dive right into trying to make a massive authority site and failing through lack of experience.

A good website design, QUALITY content and frequent content - this is a good start. You'll need to concern yourself with on page SEO and a backlink profile also - but you have to start somewhere.

Okay, so that's the site I made, I am just getting started, but you can see the homepage is the best sellers, and then I am working on new pages you can see under recent posts!

btw, you must include amazon disclaimer like this :

"SITENAMEXXXX is a participant in the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program, an affiliate advertising program designed to provide a means for sites to earn advertising fees by advertising and linking to amazon.com, endless.com, smallparts.com and/or myhabit.com."

    A few things.

Firstly, does that theme have an option to allow you to increase the width of the posts? In my opinion, most of the default widths from WP themes are a little too slim for Amazon sites. Could be just me though.

Try to come up with a design for a home page which will funnel the readers to where you want them to go on your website. At the moment, you have it setup so that new posts are just displayed on the home page. But think about this for a moment - that means the first thing a user sees on your site is your introduction post, then they have to scroll down to the next post and then down again. You're going to lose a lot of visitors who will just take a look at the "above the fold" section and then leave the page if they don't immediately see what they're looking for.

Try to find a design where you can think of the home page as a summary of your whole website. So you might have one link with a picture which leads to your reviews section, and then beside that another link which leads to a post or page about current best sellers and then perhaps another link which leads to your general blog section where you write informational posts about airbrushes. You could have these 4 things in a small grid "above the fold" with some attravtive pictures so that a reader who comes onto your home page can be lead wherever they would like to go. You need to make things easy for your readers - if they have to do any sort of scanning search through your homepage to find what they want then chances are they'll be heading back to Google for an easier option. A note on images: be careful not to plagiarize and only use images that are open source or that you have the right to use.

Of course, the options are unlimited and you could have a grid of links to individual product reviews if you wanted. That's the next thing I wanted to mention, reviews. You can't really make a site and just link directly to Amazon with what you think are the best selling items ... you need to offer more value than that, and this will stand to you because not only will your readers love you, but Google will also love you. Trust me on that.

Again, come up with a layout for your reviews that works - pictures, table of contents, summary section, pro/con bullet points - whatever works best for you. You can of course do some testing and see what converts the best as well ... but just be sure to research your products well and really write genuinely helpful content.

One last thing on the design front - a little colour never hurt anyone! You could try a theme called Flexibility3 (Google it), it's really excellent and allows you to change so many things that you can pretty much set up the site however you like very easily. Colours, sidebars, widths and so on - it even has a top feature section which actually converts fantastically well in my experience.
