Any advantages to exotic domain extensions?

If you could get a really cool domain name that used a foreign country's domain extension, would that be preferable over getting a less cool (and less memorable) .com domain?
For example, you would probably never get a domain name like Online training: IT, Finance, Design, Communication & more. but what if you could get www.traini.ng where the extension, .ng, is perhaps the domain extension of New Guinea? (it's not really; I'm just using it as an example.) Everyone knows that the .com domain rules but if you don't care about organic traffic and all the b.s. surrounding Google's obsession with Pandas and Penguins and who knows what's next, is it a good or bad idea?
