Fiction Writing Forums?

I'm interested in writing my own fiction short stories and eventually novels. I've always been intrigued with writing for fun and getting ideas down on paper and out of my head.

I'm a thinker, I constantly think about "what-if" scenarios and it's driving me crazy to think I have so many great ideas but nothing down on paper to share with others.

I guess the biggest intrigue about writing fiction, for me, is that anything is plausible to a degree. You don't always need the perfect answer or rebuttal.

Does anyone know some of the more popular fiction writing forums much like the Warrior Forum but for fiction writers? Now, I can easily do a search in Google but that won't necessarily tell me which forum is the best for beginner fiction writers now will it?

I'm almost certain there's got to be someone on here that knows.

Reddit has at least one writer's sub reddit. It isn't quite a forum, but a lot of very interesting stuff happens there.

    http://www.reddit.com/r/writing/

And while I was there, accidentally found this forum. http://absolutewrite.com/forums/

You can post stuff there for review.

It was a dark and stormy night...

Well, I tried googling it out for you and I manually checked the sites for activity. Lloyd's suggestion is a good place to start. Also, http://www.writingforums.org/ seems to have 400 users online, plus lots of views on each post.

    Check that out too!

    Hope this helps

    Hey Mike,

Writing.com is very active, and nanowrimo.org is active all year around, not just during November. If you're wanting forums particularly, Nano is better. Writing.com is good for asking polls and surveys if you're looking for research info, and more designed for getting and giving critiques.

    Good luck,

You might try the writers cafe over at kindle boards. It's a very active forum with mostly fiction writers and they talk about writing as well as selling your book on the kindle. Here's the link:

    Writers' Cafe

Some of the writers over there are quite successful and a few have even secured movie contracts for their books.

I'd go with Lee's suggestion. I'm sure she's there a lot while she counts her Kindle millions and ignores the rest of us little folk .

Kindleboards or Kboards, whatever! is one of the worst forums for writer's ever in the history of everything! here's why:

      • They don't talk about writing.
      • The usual names try to get one up on 'new' writers
      • Anti-traditional publishing themes are constant
      • Constant bickering gives indie/self-publishers a bad name
      • Streaks of Jealousy for successful writers who are not members
      • 'Do you love me?' & 'I'm great' threads
      • Exaggerated sales figures from the writers
      • Belittlement of newbies (why don't you know that?)
      • same old, same old - promotional posts etc
      • AUTHORS SELLING TO AUTHORS - what's the point?!
You're better off sticking to WF, there' more 'writing' advice here than you'll ever find at Kboards!

You won't fit in - stay here

Most think that it was God who created man in his own image but it was us who created God in ours.

All good suggestions above. You can also find genre specific forums, such as Writing Forums - Mythic Scribes if you are interested in the Fantasy genre, like myself.

    Great minds think alike!!

Anyway - as far as good forums, I was asking someone else about this and they recommended becoming active on goodreads.com

Now it's more for readers than writers (although you know tons of writers are in there), but it'd be a great place to discover what your target audience is craving, what they like/hate/feel indifferent to, etc. When you sign up, you can go to community and groups and join in. It's free.
