Need help with my new website (itservicesaustralia.com)

Hi Everyone,

As you are aware, i am new here and i thought most of you can assist with my problem.

I've done a fair bit of research and found that "IT services Australia" seems to be a good keyword to target and more over the domain is available. So i decided to take this on without really thought about what i am going to do with it.

At this stage, i am trying to put the website together but I am not sure what type of website it should be (i know this should be the first thing i should have thought off ).

I've thought about providing content (blog post) but then IT services australia are kind of a wide category to target and not really a niche. I've also thought about business directory and getting people to advertise on it or even a forum. However up till now i am still not sure what i should be going with it.

I've invested in getting the website up to PR1 in Australia which is not too hard but then i need to have a good idea on what i should do with the website.

Hope someone can help

Regards,

Jonathan

    Hi Jonathon,

without going into any other issues, can I ask what it is about the keyword "IT Services Australia" that makes you think it's a good one. It's a nice catchy name for a business or website, to be sure. Not so great a 'keyword' imho.

I'm not meaning to offend, - I am asking genuinely as it's not exactly a term that has lots of search volume. So I was wondering what your criteria might be.

    Regards,
    Paul

    Hi Paul

Sorry for the late reply, didnt know anyone replied until you mentioned it on the other thread. Should subscribe to this thread lol.

Well, i guess the reason why i did it was because of the sear search volume both in america and in Australia. When i look around the PPC is quite high and it's not very competitive. No other reasons to be honest.

However i did have some ideas what i am going to do with it before i bought it like
    - Selling business directory (once i get to PR1)
    - Doing product review such as web hosting and any other It related stuff
    - Ebooks about IT services

But to be honest, not much focus which is why i am asking for suggestions and help.

      Hi Jon,

well certainly asking is the way to go. You certainly sound like you have all the ideas. I'd just be really wary that that particular keyword doesn't get anywhere near enough searches to make it useful imo.

You've bought the domain now so you might feel you need to proceed. But honestly, I'd rather waste ten bucks on a dud domain name than set about building a site on a name that doesn't get much in the way of searches.

Thatsaid, it doesn't necessarily matter that the KW doesn't get many searches IF you plan on driving traffic in other ways. I'm sure you know that the exact match domain really only matters if you plan on SEO'ing your way to the top in Google serps.

      Just a thought !

      Cheers,
      Paul

Well, i've used google keyword tool to do al my research before i proceed.

i search for "it services australia" and i get the following results:

        Keyword: it services australia
        competition: Low
        Global: 301,000
        Local (australia): 201,000
        CPC: $2.94

        Am i interpreting it wrongly?

Set the keyword tool to exact match and you get 110 global searches per month. You have the tool set to broad match.

It's not a bad domain name if you want to use it for a directory, or webhost review site - or even all the things you suggested. Divide it up into cities or states to make it more local and you might find more searches.

For example, computer repairs canberra gets 720 monthly exact match services. People tend to use "computer" rather than "it".

Rosetrees is right: you have to tick the exact match box and untick the broad results box. When you enter, there are almost always multiple keywords listed by google. Take a look at the local searches a month and see which keywords provide ideas for you to work with. Next, you could go and see if there are enough articles and or products in your niche. Of course you could also go ahead and create your own prouduct! Good luck!

Ok - You're kicked!!! It's an easy mistake to make - trust me, we've all done it.

As for "computer services canberra" - that was a guess I'm afraid. Nothing clever involved.

I was just thinking of something more local - I tried "it services canberra" first and got nothing.

However, if you put in "computer services canberra" you should be able to read down the list and find other, related keywords.

Keyword research is a combination of inspiration, luck, magic and reading down the list of related terms.

Thanks Rose. I guess i've learned something valuable today.

If I am going to focus on a Niche, what number of searches is considered reasonable before i venture into building the site up?
