Forums vs Other Discussion Sites?

Hi,

we all knew that there are many forums and some other discussion sites like yahoo answers, mylot, answerbag, wikianswer etc..

a) So, if we particpate regularly in these type of websites, do we really get benefit either backlink or getting sales for us?

b) which is better whether participating in forums? or in these discussion sites I mentioned above?

I hope most of the experienced ones already tried all these, so I need your suggestions...

waiting for your responses!

LOL Gill. I am glad that you bumped your thread so that I could see it tonight.

There is very little value to the backlinks you obtain from what you mentioned above, so doing it for SEO reasons is a waste of time.

When you add a signature in a forum, however, you gain the value of having people see it and click on it. Why don't you have a signature in here yet?

I agree...about the forums and the sig link. You are at least guaranteed a link here in your sig.

Places like YahooAnswers, you really have to pick and choose where you put your URL. If you just spam it, it will be removed and you just wasted your time. If you browse questions about your niche so you can pounce on it and put your URL as a help to a question, you may be wasting your time too...at least with forums you are getting that link.

          Thank you for your agreement.

About the Yahoo! Answers...I used them before then Penguin update, and I know back then you had to build your account to a Level 2 account before your links would show up as a link at all. After it did, I had quite a few answers ranked at the very top of Google that provided good traffic for me.

Is it still that way today?

I have been doing Yahoo Answers marketing for a while now for various clients, and it seems to still work. It might not help directly ranking your website higher in Google, but Y!A itself ranks quite highly, so when people view a question with the best answer perhaps having a link to your website, they are likely to click on your link. It's actually a great way to get highly targeted traffic.

Forums are really cool for learning and also for having the high quality signature.
So I am going with Forums. but Yahoo answer is the place where you can really get valuable helps.

Had an interesting experience I think you will want to hear.

I had created a product in a profitable niche, I wanted a few reviews for the sales copy so all I did was go to google type "keyword" forums. There were a few with decent traffic figures, I created an account on these and simply posted free "keyword" course need 5 reviews, first 5 copies are free with a written review. Something like that. And said if you are interested email me at .... That was 2 years ago and I am still getting emails now. I simply say the reviews copies are taken, they went pretty fast but I can give you the product for a 50% discount as you did contact me via the review link. Conversion rate for that 1 sentence is around 25%.

Got another email about it today, the 30th email of this type. Minus the 5 review copies. Thats 25emails at a 25% conversion rate, lets say 20% for math sake. Thats 5 sales at 50% discount of a $40 product. = $100 in total, not bad for 2 posts to 2 forums!
