I've already got my list of 30 kw's, actually it was hard keeping it to just 30 after I really got started. Most of these I think I can rank for without any trouble at all. Plenty of PR0's and ebay results showed up. Bring on Step 2! |

This is great info Andrew. Are their any tools available that would speed up the research process for finding the low competition keywords faster? Also, I get the part of finding low competitive keywords, HOWEVER, is there a way to see if these are CONVERTING keywords? So I get the research, but am having a difficult time understanding if it is worth all the time and effort if you don't know if it is going to convert. Right?? |

this is just a guide to get traffic, it's up to you to make the traffic convert. once you get the traffic, then worry about making it convert well. However, what you will get, as Andy said, is highly targeted traffic for the topic you are writing about. There's tons of ways to get targeted traffic to convert into money. The hardest part of starting out is getting the traffic in the first place. Once you get it consitently, then you can start figuring out what to do with it. |

Hey Guys, Jhiggings, Yep, using very similar techniques ![]() Leon, Personally I don't believe that building links to your own ezine article is a good idea. I say if you're going to spend time building links, build them to your own site, not someone elses. The EZA articles will get ranked for long tail keywords just from being at eza, and if they don't, no problem because you're on a plan of continual submissions - if one doesn't, another will. And for the ones that don't, you're still building links to the content on your site that's on that keyword so YOUR page will eventually rank instead. Andrew |

EZine articles rank very well, especially if you build backlinks to them. I have had ezine articles rank #1-5 with competitive terms that have over 1million competing pages. Howeve the trick to this is continue to ad backlinks every week, so that your article stays in the first page for a long time | |

Energy, I'm glad you brought it up. Unfortunately there's no tool or strategy for really knowing which keywords convert the best because what "converts best" is different depending on what your offer is. The only way you can know is through testing, and paid traffic is the best way to start. You test what your page will convert at if you send X number of visitors to it from X keywords. You do the same for as many keywords as you want/can afford to and then you base your free traffic strategies on that. Ie, I know that keywords X, Y and Z are going to convert the best for this offer so I will put the most energy and resources into getting ranked for them. Hope that helps. Andrew |

I bookmarked this post I think we can all use an extra 1000 visitors. I've also never used the Google Keyword Tool in this way and am going to see how it works.

Thanks for the detailed approach and images! If the niche is a relatively small niche - compared to the vastness of the web and the most popular IM niches, then I suggest you lower what you're looking for in your first step from 500-1000 to 300-800? or something along those lines? There are niches that don't seem to have even 1000... those are the ones I'm usually targeting. Does this make sense? -Anthony |

Agreed Andrew, it's very kind of you to share this way. I find it interesting that you are looking for a niche first here. I was under the impression you liked to find a product first, but perhaps here you're speaking more generally to include those who will be making their own products.

wow love it. You are a golden god enveloped in a sea of excellence. Someone wrote that on my ebay feedback once, thought it was appropriate for you. I did a 5 hr re optimising across my site with new, more appropriate keywords inspired by your post. I also used the seo book keyword tool that is easily accesible with the seo for firefox addon. much respect for the free info. |

Eliza, Thanks for mentioning that. The reason I didn't mention it here because I wanted this to be more broad and include anyone who already had an existing site. This is not exactly about choosing a niche but choosing good keywords for your existing niche. Andrew |

Thanks Andrew a lot for sharing your keyword research strategy here. But I still feel that to find more long tail keywords , Wordtracker's free keyword tool is more better choice. Or we can take a keyword from google tool to put it into wordtracker's tool to get more long tail keywords to have better rankings. Anyways thanks a lot for this. |

Hey VB, Really? You like wordtracker better? I think both of them are innaccurate and it might well be the case that WT brings up a greater volume of keywords just because it tracks daily searches rather than monthly (where G shouldn't show a term with 40 searches a month, WT might) but then you don't know if that data is reliable at that low a search count anyway... Ultimately either works well. Andrew |

Thanks goes out to the thread grave digger Bob, I would have missed this if it wasn't resurrected... ![]() Thought I would share some of my favorite Keyword Research Tools to add to the goodness of this thread. Wordtracker - Keyword Questions: http://labs.wordtracker.com/keyword-questions People often type questions into search engines. Now you can find these questions, answer them and get some great search traffic. You’ll be targeting long tail keywords and providing content that readers want to read and link to. Seo Book Keyword Suggestion Tool: http://tools.seobook.com/keyword-tools/seobook/ Learn which keywords you should be targeting to increase your website rankings, traffic, and profit. Our Free Keyword Research Tool offers rough suggested daily search volumes by market for Google, Yahoo!, and MSN.* Keyword Research: Microsoft adCenter Labs Keyword Forecast: http://adlab.msn.com/Keyword-Forecast/ This tool forecasts the impression count and predicts demographic distributions of keywords. Before launching your SEO or SEM campaign, get forecasts of search volume and demographic predictions for your selected keywords. Entity Association Graph: http://adlab.msn.com/Vnext/Entity-Association-Graph/ This tool provides a graphic view of the associations between entities by mining the co-occurrences of entities in search queries or search sessions. Such associations will be useful when creating query suggestions or analyzing user search patterns. Keyword Group Detection: http://adlab.msn.com/Keyword-Group-Detection/ Based on keywords that a user enters, this tool helps to find the groups of words from the pool of online queries that are related or similar to the keywords entered by the user. This keyword research tool also detects common misspellings of keywords entered, which can help merchants to include commonly misspelled keywords when bidding for lists of keywords. Keyword Mutation Detection: http://adlab.msn.com/Keyword-Mutation-Detection/ This tool displays common misspellings or alternative spellings of keywords that a user enters that are frequently found in search query logs. The process of finding mutations is based on the technology found in keyword group detection. Search Funnels: http://adlab.msn.com/Search-Funnels/ Customers often perform searches by typing related keywords in specific sequences. This tool helps in visualizing and analyzing the customers' search sequences. For example, you can learn how many people search for BMW and then search for Mercedes Benz, Audi, and other automobiles. |

This is awesome stuff Andrew. I am reading through your report at the moment and its pure gold my friend ![]() Quick question, how do you find out the traffic stats a site receives in Google search? e.g. the one you showed in part 1 of the report for the ezine article. Thanks |
