Website on Math, How is the IDea?? [following up]

Its a follow up posting form my previous posting. I got positive response form the warriors members about earning money by solving mathematical problems online. Now I am thinking a step more. And for that, I require your opinions,

I want to start a new website where people can submit their mathematical problem. I will solve them for a certain fee. If I can't solve any of them will refund their money.

Do you think this will make money??

    It could! Position yourself as an expert. Find your audience: is it high school students/random people/workers? Figure out who would need your services, and build it from there!

    Sounds like one of those things where you just have to try it and see. The trick being to not spend too much time analyzing its potential (that could take forever) or too much time keeping it going without evidence that it works.

    Here is an idea! How about you create membership websites where you offer personalized coaching to high school and college students. You could also offer help with the Math portion of SAT, ACT, GRE, PCAT etc.
    To drive members, you could post up GOOD quality math tutorials covering confusing concepts like combination, permutation, trignometry etc on youtube (kinda like the Khans academy), but to get individualized coaching they would need to register on your website.

      Well, thanks for the idea. But, I do love to solve problems. Videos consists of a lot of talking with a small zest. However, I will try this also.
      Now trying to make the website by myself , will get back to all of you and make you update about my progress

    Yes, you can make money from this (especially if you take PayPal, which many students without credit-cards will use). I myself know people who have looked for such a service in the past and been unable to find it online.

    Seriously, there's a market for this.

    The difficult part will be the marketing. I don't know how to promote it and make the target customers aware of it (without competing with other, hugely well established math sites that don't have the problem-solving service). I think it might not be easy at all. But there are unquestionably potential customers for it.

      If the OP is near any college campuses, it shouldn't be too much of a problem. Post on the bulletin boards around class, at bus stops, and arrange to hand out fliers. A lot of university websites have virtual bulletin boards on their websites too. Oh, and there's Craigslist! Now for high school students and below? I'm not sure of many legal ways to approach them lol.

    If I were to be totally honest, personally I would go to:

    Mathematics
    Or
    MathOverflow

    And get my question answered free, and maybe if they couldn't solve it (they most likely will there are thousands of talented people on there) I may come to you.

      You'd be surprised at how many people have never heard of either site. If the OP gets in front of them before they can search these services out...they're golden.

        That's true, I guess it comes down to where you rank in Google, the sites I mentioned get masses of long-tail traffic due to all of the questions, maybe you can post your questions online for all to see once you answer one correctly.

        This way you can start building long-tail traffic too.

        Also I would take a look at the sites I posted, and have a go at answering some of the questions to see if you are as good as you think you are

          Using the traffic methods I mentioned above, the OP can knock Google out of the equation entirely . Then the only competition would be anyone else that can try to hit the same spots and the same students first.
