Hitting the top spot on google.co.uk

Hello warriors,

I have 4 keywords sitting in the 5th positions on google.co.uk, for 2 months I have been trying to move it into top 3, then top spot but it hasn't moved.

What should I do to achieve this, should I use specific types of links?

I need your opinions.

Thanks

Post some more articles and more backlinking. Hook me on skype and I can tell you which backlinks. Dont want them to get spammed if I put them here.

What kind of back links have you been building?

Are you targeting just the 4 keywords as anchor text for your back links?

You already have a UK domain-name and the site on hosting located within the UK, presumably ("just checking"!)?

    • If you are not moving then it's time to have a look on the backlinks of the one on top of you. See what they were doing that you have not. Be reasonable however on what you can or can't do.
For me I sit on top 5 of keyword lottery syndicate but there is no point competing with the National lottery.

@ Alexa- the domain is a .com and hosted with goddady but I have set my geo targeting to UK via webmaster tools. Thanks

@ Uk lottery syndicate - the sites above me are not authority type sites, they provide the same services as me.

@Barryonline - I have been doing article submissions, blog commenting, web 2.0 posting, and social bookmarking. Until last week, I were targeting the four keywords as anchor text but someone notified me of the penguin update and over optimization being penalized, so now I have stopped doing that.

        Thanks guys

Not so good - you're still at a disadvantage, compared with having the site hosted in the UK, Chima - and this is something easily fixed (I found it very beneficial, myself, for my UK niche site).

Chima, I was like you - I sat at Nr 6 for about a month with my weight loss site, then suddenly moved up to Number 3 and the only thing I can attribute it to was being accepted as a featured blogger on Mumsnet - that gave me a strong link plus traffic from mumsnet - so the guys on here are probably right - strong backlinks are good for SEO - if you want to go down that route, that is. I have just launched a political blog at 10:30 am. this morning just off the back of my facebook contacts and am already up to 15 visits. I launched a joint web, designated facebook page, designated twitter page campaign - pretty effective for this niche.

    My advice is...

    1) Get Quality Backlinks from your niche. Dont get backlinks from site which are not related to your niche.
    2) Create some pdf, ppt, doc and share it in document sharing sites...

This will work... if not then get some quality .edu site backlinks.

    hope you will get #1

How do you know? Without knowing anything about the SEO quality of the sites outranking him? Are you just guessing, perhaps?

Why do so many people believe this will help? The beliefs of the Urban Myth School of Internet Marketing are particularly prevalent, at the moment. The realities, on the other hand, are here: http://www.warriorforum.com/adsense-...ml#post6391988

Getting that extra push to the top spot requires a lot more work than most people would guess. In order to beat out the top ranking site, you should re-asses the type of backlinks you have and the other SEO strategies you have been using.

As said several times in the above posts, the quality of your content can typically boost your ranking through natural readability and linkage from other sites. There are not many white hat SEO tactics that can help bump you up within a short period of time, but good content can get you rolling.

Depending on your keywords, promoting your site through social media networks can bring you fresh, natural links that will look good to Google's ranking algorithm. Taking a flexible SEO approach to your ranking, will help you rank in more ways than just building specific links.
