Amazon S3 - worst decision ever?!

I recently put all my products in Amazon S3 for my customers to download from after purchasing their products.

Now I realize that mac users CANNOT "right click" and "save video as", and so I'm going to be running into a big issue. Is there a way I can have Mac users download this stuff?

Thanks a ton! I hope Amazon S3 wasn't the worst decision EVER

    Daniel,

You can add content disposition headers to the file which will mean the file also has to be downloaded and can't be viewed online but an easier way to achieve this is to just put the file into a folder and zip the folder. That way they are downloading a .zip file not a .pdf file or video file and won't be able to view it in their browser - it will force the download when they click on the download link.

You need to Zip them in order to automatic download when they click on the link.

I use WinZip by the way, not affiliate link:

Yes, it would really be the best option for MAC users.

        Mac users can right click.

        Either via trackpad, magic mouse...

or for the stone aged users still bumping on the one click mouse.. (control + click)

Thanks a ton, guys, I think .ZIP is probably the route I'll go for and see if I need .rar.

Each product has a few hours of video and some PDF's included - I wonder if I can Zip them all at once?

          Thanks again!

The reasoning behind slicing huge files for download is that if for some reason your customer's connection breaks, it might render the download unusable. Imagine how pissed he might get if he loses all that time downloading this humongous file. If he only loses a slice, well that's still annoying, but more manageable. So it all depends on the size of your files...

Actually, I believe this is very browser-dependent (and has nothing to do with your operating system: Apple, Win, Linux, etc.). If the video file is pretty huge, packing it in zip might work, but you might also give archive file types a shot: look into ".rar" for instance - this is the format used to pack 2-hour movies in, so you can rar and split your video in that format, then your user downloads all the rar files, then "unrar" it - your user will need a utility to do that ... 7z is a good one, free, multi-platform : you can check it out here - www.7-zip.org

      good luck!

This isn't an S3 problem. Mac users wouldn't be able to right click anywhere you stored the files.

i havent had any problems with mac users downloading stuff ive hosted on ezs3. there's also only one button on a mouse for the mac....so right clicking really doesnt exist for them.

depending on how you have the links setup, you can do a direct link to the file or as others have already posted, compress it in a .rar or .zip file and it will automatically download.
